Menendez now has led between 3 and 11 points in the last five polls from New Jersey.

nj is too blue. illusions that a gop candidate can win here should be squashed.

Are people in NJ dim or what? They are akin to the people who keep voting for McCain.

High GOP turnout could make up the difference. If the GOTV effort is as good as some say it is, then we have a real chance there. It sure would be nice to have that seat.

I don't understand the people of NJ. They have so many democrat crooks etc., and they keep reelecting them.
Are they just stupid or what?

Nope, the illusion that the way to win as a Republican in NJ is to bash Bush and run a semi-Dim should be quashed. This race was Keane the younger's for the taking and he was leading, but then he apparently listened to all these NJ is too blue advisor and tried to run against Bush and GOP ideas.
I am not saying that he should have had lockstep views with a GOP candidate in say Texas, but once he started bashing Bush and running away from almost every GOP position, why would anyone vote for him? They can have a real Dim by voting for the Dim and if their choice is between a fake Dim and a real one, why not go for the real one?

Pretty high undecided. I imagine it is conservatives that Kean has pissed off with his Bush bashing. If they come home he could win. The corrupt Menendez being at such a low point this late means all his vote is probably in.

Yes, they are that stupid. If they don't throw out Corzine, Menendez, Lautenberg, that crew, then they really get what they deserve - not to mention Tony Soprano!

The incumbent at 44% is very bad for Menendez.
This one is definitely winnable.

It amazes me. They keep their bad congress people while we get rid of ours.
They don't find anything wrong with their crooks but give us hell about ours.
There is a big disconnect here.

this one is winnable - the undecideds are going to break hard against Menendez - when a well known incumbent can't get close to 50%, he's in trouble.
the biggest downside in NJ - vote fraud.

GOP can't even beat a crook. NJ gets what it deserves.

you think some member of the NJEA cares about a corrupt Dem? they care about their salary and their golden government employee pension, that's it.

It's hard to get enthused about Tom Kean Jr. If elected, he will be a Lincoln Chafee clone. The GOP will be better served working towards the election of Santorum and other deserving PUBS.

Yes, the disconnect is that the Sopranos takes place in NJ and Tony fits right in - and the voters don't get it! Bada bing! And I did not even mention McGreevey! We had a great candidate in Brett Schundler and the voters chose this two faced "gay American" or whatever he calls himself. Not to mention that the Demos are big supporters of partial birth abortion and gay marriage. Thank goodness for Rep. Chris Smith! This is the last chance for New Jersans to prove that they are sick of these corrupt Demos.

I sort of agree with you. I am praying for Rick's victory -however, it would be nice to grab NJ from the Demos! I don't think Tom Jr. is as bad as Chaffee - that would take a lot!

It's the machine.........and the GOP is sitting on its haunches. I phoned the Kean, Jr. headquarters in Bergen County to see if they had any campaign buttons or bumper stickers and they have exactly nothing. I went online to see if I could even pay for some buttons and can't find them that way either. What kind of a campaign is this without any cheerleaders?
The ole Dem machine is alive and healthy in NJ and Menendez has every Hispanic in the state locked up.

The number one reason why Schundler lost is not because New Jerseyans are stupid, or because they are crooks, but because the NJ GOP sat on their fat asses and didn't help him campaign because he wasn't the guy the party bigwigs wanted to emerge from the primary.
The NJ GOP is run by well-entrenched RINOs.

Get your facts straight, Kean never bashed Bush. He said Rumsfeld and Hastert should resign. He supports our move into Iraq and opposes cut and run. I get a little sick and tired of some of you who attack moderate Republicans because they are not in lock step with you on every issue. Kean is no Chafee be any means. He supports the President on the Courts(Judge Alito), on taxes and about 80% of the Republican platform. You can't win in New Jersey as a right wing candidate. Its that simple.
