Kerry calls Iraq vote his greatest regret

WASHINGTON --Four years to the day after voting to authorize war in Iraq, Senator John F. Kerry today asserted that the vote is his greatest regret of his political career, and said all lawmakers who voted for the war should admit that it was a mistake.

"There's nothing -- nothing -- in my life in public service I regret more, nothing even close," Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat, wrote in a dispatch on the liberal blog HuffingtonPost.com. "We should all be willing to say: I was wrong, I should not have voted for the Iraq War Resolution."

snip......

Throughout his 2004 presidential campaign, Kerry said that he would not have changed his vote to authorize force to topple Saddam Hussein. His struggles to articulate his position on the war epitomized his difficulty in communicating his campaign message.

Today's pronouncement marks Kerry's latest attempt to establish himself as a firmly anti-war senator as he prepares for another possible run for the White House. ..............

In making decisions of national and international importance, John, there are no do-overs. A President must make decisions, and then stand by those decisions. A President can't be changing his policies and decisions at the whim of polls or the blowing winds. And that, John, is why you should never be President; you are incapable of making decisions and sticking with them.

Please the court, I offer into the record this excerpt from the Hon. Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2004 RNC speech:

That's what I admire most about the President. He's a man of perseverance. He's a man of inner strength. He is a leader who doesn't flinch, doesn't waiver, does not back down.

My fellow Americans, make no mistake about it, terrorism is more insidious than communism, because it yearns to destroy not just the individual, but the entire international order.

The President did not go into Iraq because the polls told him it was popular. As a matter of fact, the polls said just the opposite. But leadership isn't about polls. It's about making decisions you think are right and then standing behind those decisions. That's why America is safer with George W. Bush as President.

And not you, Flurch.

You mean Kerry quotes like this?

Yes, sir. The same. And more. Coming from a senior official in prime time.

As the "axis of evil" unfolds it's sinister intent I'm glad we have Iraq.

For years we heard about how Bush 41 stopped short of a complete mission. He was called a coward.
Saddam thumbed his nose at us for years, the U.N. did what it
does best; nothing.
Now we hold the trump card!

Kerry is really a sorry has-been replaying his vietnam
coward days.

"He wraps my strategy in slogans because he's afraid to take responsibility'' for a failed war policy, Kerry said in a statement."

What nonsense. Who else is he blaming? And he wraps your strategy in slogans because that's all you've got.

I guess when you get around to admitting you'll run again, you'll start with that bullschtuff about all the foreign leaders that you've run into just having lunch in D.C. and NYC who tell you confidentially things they wouldn't tell someone who can actually help them. You'll also lie about having allowed the examination of your full, unredacted military records. And your wife Teresa will be loosed from her gag order so she can campaign for you. Unfortunately, that means all of us listening to her will be gagging.

Seems to me all his lying should be his biggest regret but some how he sees it as one of his biggest pluses. That's so typical of the Radical non-Judeo/Christian Left.

Imagine what Kerry's record from VietNam (You did know he was in Vietnam?) would look like if, instead of three, eight Purple Heart Medals had to be awarded in order for him to be relieved of serving a complete tour of duty.

The bloodshed is just too horrible to contemplate.

It might have required five months instead of four.

To think that there are veterans in wheelchairs for life and others with grevious physically disabling and disfiguring injuries who were only awarded a single Purple Heart. How can Kerry sleep at night knowing that he has made claim to have sacrificed triple what those fine men gave.

"I characterize that as `cut and run' because I believe it is `cut and run,' " Bush continued. "They may not use `cut and run,' but they say `date certain' is when to get out, before the job is done. That is `cut and run.' "

W's been getting aggressive lately. I like it.

Anyone have any idea what he is doing here? Has anyone else noticed...this guy has more weird pictures taken of him than anyone else? And in every picture, he almost always has his eyes closed, like he is afraid he is going to get hit, whether it is firing a weapon or catching a football!

A Brief Compilation of DemocRAT Hypocrisy

"[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ..." Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003.

Thanks for the Zell Miller quote. That was great. Brought tears to my eyes just like it did when he first delivered it. What a damning speech that was!

"Kerry said for the first time that he had been wrong to vote to give President Bush the authority to remove Saddam Hussein by force."

Pefectly backwards timing for Kerry - comes just at the time that concerns arise as to whether NK might sell nukes to the Saddam's of the world. At least Saddam is not in a position to buy an NK nuke.

What did the Democrats say about Iraq’s “WMD”?

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
- President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction."
- Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton.
- (D) Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
