ON CAPITOL HILL GOP Foley retort: 'Chappaquiddick' Congressman defending Hastert says he didn't 'leave a young person in the water'

Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn. Frustrated by Democratic attacks over the Foley scandal, a Republican congressman hit back with a pointed reference to Sen. Edward Kennedy's 1969 incident at Chappaquiddick in which a young campaign worker died after the Massachusetts Democrat's car plunged off a bridge.
Connecticut Rep. Christopher Shays made the remark when Kennedy came to his state to campaign for opponent Diane Farrell, who called on House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign, the Hartford Courant reported.
"I know the speaker didn't go over a bridge and leave a young person in the water, and then have a press conference the next day," said Shays.
"Dennis Hastert didn't kill anybody," he added.

Shays said if Farrell was willing to host Kennedy, she shouldn't be so quick to judge Hastert.
"We don't know what he has or hasn't done," he said of Hastert. "But she had a fundraiser for Sen. Kennedy, and we know what he did."
Diane Farrell
Farrell said her "jaw dropped" when she heard Shay's comments, arguing Chappaquiddick had nothing to do with Hastert's current situation.

Rep. Shays appears to have a spine and a pair of testicles. I hope that Republican "leadership" doesn't remove them when they notice what he has.
Ted don't care, though. It's happy hour and the barmaid's a babe!
First good thing he's said in awhile.
As I said in an earlier thread,
I'd rather have an IM conversation with Foley then go on a drive with Teddy.
I don't think being better than the Dems is the standard of morality we should be shooting for. There are other more universal standards to live up to.
Telling the truth about a Senator who should have been kicked out a long time ago, is part of the Universal
truth.
Ted Kennedy, should have been investigated and removed from our government.

'Bout time....this is thrown in the swimmers face!!!
Wow, well said, Mr. Shay.
Shades of "You're no Jack Kennedy", only this time it will work in the GOP's favor.
Funny how it's never relevant, eh?
Funny how she knew exactly what he was talking about, though.
...which would make an excellent tagline...or bumper-sticker.
AWESOME.
Republicans have to be outrageous in their defense of Hastert and the party. Making statements like he did are the only way they can get headlines. I want to see some more of this.
Like-
"So far I know that the only sexually explicit contact made by Foley was to an 18 yr. old so the only thing I know for sure is that he's gay. Last I checked that wasn't a crime, and certainly no reason for Denny Hastert to step down- I mean it's not like he:
"Was in the Ku Klux clan like a certain current DEMOCRAT from W.V, all while his party accuses mine of racism, which is patently false but said so often people actually believe it"......or
"Ran a brothel out of his apartment with his prostitute boyfriend like a current Massachusetts Senator. Being gay isn't illegal but running a brothel is and nobody asked their leader to resign over it"
or
"Was caught in an FBI sting with 90k in his freezer like a certain DEMOCRAT from Louisiana all while his party tries to brand this logo into people's mind about a "Culture of Corruption" in the Republican party"
or
Anyway, you get my point. Saying these things at debates is the only way a Republican can get any local press and it's local press you need. Lots of times people don't even know they did this stuff, or at least need to be reminded. I'm not even convinced some young reporters even know the details of Chappaquidick.
I agree, so lets stay on this one also.

He's a one of a rare breed these days. It's about darn time. Congrats!
That picture looks the the scene at the end of "Pyscho"...lol

"I only lost one voter. Well, maybe two. "
Even a broken clock is right once every six years... is there an election coming up?
