small plane crashed into a 50-story luxury high-rise building on Manhattan's Upper East Side Wednesday, igniting a raging fire, killing at least two and initially trapping people on the floors above the point of impact.
New York Police Department officials said two were confirmed dead and there could be more fatalities.
The plane hit the building, located at 524 East 72nd Street, 20 floors above space occupied by the Hospital for Special Surgery.
The New York Fire Department told FOX News that there were people trapped above the point of impact, but the NYPD later said that all occupants located above the fire-ravaged floors had been evacuated.
By 3:30 p.m. ET, the blaze was reported to have been extinguished.
FBI spokeswoman Christine Monaco said there was no indication the crash which happened five years and one month after Sept. 11, 2001 was a terrorist attack, but officials "have been sent to the scene as a routine."
"The initial indication is that there is a terrible accident," said Department of Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke. Fighter jets, however, were scrambled and were patrolling the skies above major cities as a precaution, according to Defense Department officials.

I was about to say the same thing. They should be taken out to a wall and shot immediately...its quite possible right now as reported on ESPN that his family doesn't even know yet and this filth is already playing a possible suicide angle?
Don't forget Bob Ojeda.
Thanks...trying to catch up...
Both of them had little business flying in bad weather. If Lidle was trying to do a flyaround of Manhattan it is hard to think of a worse day to do it. It is easy for people to say "tragedy". But pilots have a choice whether or not to fly in bad weather. JFK and Lidle were both rookie pilots and shopuld have known better.
Please post a photo of the correct make of aircraft!
That is a Cessna 172!
I guess all small airplanes are yellow Piper Cubs to you, Bo Dietle and most others unfamiliar with general aviation.
Torre's managerial style shows little imagination. He would never be successful in the National League.
I hadn't picked up on that from Fox and I'm not watching MSNBC so I couldn't tell you.
I heard it specifically between Matthews and Olberman on MSNBC just to be clear.
well those assclowns wouldn't know it if it bit them in the arse....
I posted the image, caption and link. The caption has been corrected.

(Lighten up.)
I looked at the weather in the area after the accident and I would not have taken anyone for sight seeing in my hometown if weather was like that.
I know it is early and the NTSB will have the final say on the cause.
Expensive airplane with advanced avionics. Parachute recovery system. Low time pilot, marginal weather.
I wonder if the advanced aircraft and features gives some a false sense of safety.
Never heard of him. Was he a drinker and wencher and steroid user like so many of them? Or was he a straight arrow? If he was one of the out-of-control ones, maybe the baseball league can be sued for enabling a wild guy like that to have enough money to fly, who knows?
"Had the Yanks beaten Detroit, he would have been with the team instead of flying his plane."
Are you saying this is Torre's fault? unbelievable.
MN I agree. There are no checks and balances with the MSM, Matthews and Olberman are sleaze merchants with no soul.
I agree. A man just lost his life and had kids, who cares about baseball.
The Cirrus SR20 is a great little plane. If I had enough money lying around, I would probably get one too. It has a emergency parachute system. Pull the red handle and a chute deploys and lowers the entire aircraft to the ground safely. Apparently it did not come into play in this accident, however.
Visibility isn't the best, today. Maybe he just didn't see where he was going.
That is one strange interview.
Two DJ's verbally haranguing the pitcher for quotes in a newspaper that the Yanks weren't prepared for the Tigers.
Looks like he was NOT instrument rated according to the airmans database..........
