"Faulty data. At least, incomplete.

Says who???

I didn't want to hijack the thread (or bore everybody) by including the tables.....

But....-you- can view the D.O.T. stats (motor vehicle) (here)

And ......the NTSB data (aviation) (here)

The road/air ratio during a 24-hour period?!?!?!?

C'mon....I've never even seen that figure, have you???

Lidle, whose team was eliminated from postseason play on Saturday by the Detroit Tigers, told reporters on Sunday that he planned to fly home to California on Wednesday. He said it would take roughly 15 hours of flying time, though he planned on stopping at least twice, including one stop in Arizona.

ESPN reported that Lidle's wife, Melanie, was on a commercial flight headed for California and was not on board Lidle's plane. ESPN also reported that Lidle called in fuel problems shortly after takeoff.

Hobby pilots are just scairt that their prerogatives might get challenged, like being able to tour a populous downtown at lower altitudes. Wouldn't want to take the fun out of the hobby.
Flying low in a populated area is, in fact, illegal. Before making ignorant statements, feel free to check out the Federal Aviation Regulations.

All pilots are tested on them before they ever receive a license.

Not only am I aware of it, I'm made complaint using the regulation against some nuisance hobbyists. Don't hotdog my land. I've got binoculars, and I'll read your number and turn you in. Helicopters, that goes triple.

As affluence spreads, more and more are able to indulge the "dream" they have of soaring ascendent."

So what do you have against people realizing their dreams??

It is a tragedy that Lidle took 3 innocent victims when he died while doing something (flying) that he loved doing.

There is no rationalization for accidently killing other people in pursuit of your own happiness.

Accidents DO happen, tho', regardless of the venue.

I don't know what it is. There are a few Freepers that are against "affluence" ... or enjoying wealth. It's disgusting.

It's up to three now? Last I checked, it was two.

Maysie, we're rich! Now I have to become a magnificent man in a flying machine! Go get the kids! The grandkids, too, and let's go flying!

Even one innocent is one too many, no?

C'mon....I've never even seen that figure, have you???

No. But without that data, the data you posted can be misleading.
The result you are hoping to demonstrate...that air travel in a private plane is safer than travel in a passenger car...is the result of mathematical calculations. Only ONE of the variables required to compute that is the number of accidents per year involving each form of travel. Not the ONLY one. That is all I was trying to demonstrate.
So don't get your knickers in a twist. I didn't say you were wrong. Only that additional data is required to extrapolate that air travel in a private plane is safer than travel in a passenger car.

Don't run em off lets gently shepherd them into the light. I mean with ideas like that its amazing they aren't at the DU and voting for Ralph Nader.

Well yes but sometimes the new converts haven't quite made the full transition. We need to work one educating them. If nothing else we can keep them distracted and not voting for democrats............. ;-)

Isn't it "interesting" how CORY LIDL came to the exact same Aircraft fate as JFK jr's..?

A JFK jr Aircraft fate that CORY LIDL just "happened" to have mentioned in a National TV interview during the Major League Playoff Series last week..?
