AP Exclusive: Reid got $1M in land sale

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He's never been charged with wrongdoing — except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

Reid is in big trouble!

Yes, I do believe he is. The scrambling behind the scenes must be furious right now. What exquisite timing (Rove, you magnificent bastard).

"Folks this is the AP, therefore it will be in 95% of the newspapers in this country! The accusation alone will kill the donks!"

Don't count on it. Most newspapers suffer what is called "selective reporting." They'll report on the front pages Republican crooks, but the Rat crooks are relegated to back pages if at all.

Isn't this a crime under 18USC?

I'd like to have a day with his IRS records. Wonder if he paid the income tax on this?

Looks like the Hildebeast will be the new Senate Minority Leader. Reid should have expected this.

" Reid reported it to Congress as a personal land sale.

The complex dealings allowed Reid to transfer ownership, legal liability and some tax consequences to Brown's company without public knowledge, but still collect a seven-figure payoff nearly three years later."

If any of you out there sells something I don't own..I want want some of the money!!

Send me a private message for where to send the dough!

That's what happens when you don't let Hillary in on a 7 figure land deal.

Either that or she wants the job as a better spring board for her to run in 2008.

Uhoh, the Democrat Senate leader in big poopoo. Man I'd love to see the size of his freezer. He must need a big one to hide all that scratch in. I can hear Reid now, after hanging up after being called about this: "Ohhhhhh Macaca!!!" Heheheheh. The Republican culture of corruption strikes again, only, it's ANOTHER Democrat. Eventually, there will have to be some ACTUAL REPUBLICANS to have in the Republican culture of corruption, not a bunch of Democrats. :)

" The whole emphasis will be on those mean old Republicans, not the substance of the charges. The MSM are so friggin' predictable."

Not this time. The media cannot hide this. The only thing they can do to bury this is start talking about NK. That will drive voters to Republicans.

Democrats will have to come forward and clean house, starting with Reid. If anything to save any chances they have of picking up seats. No wonder Hastert said that anyone involved with Foley will be fired.

Plus, Hillary knows how many seats are up for grabs in 2008.

Guess they finally decided to kick someone in the ass on the other side.

"manipulating real estate transactions to avoid taxes"
Can you tell me how he avoided taxes? The article says he owned a 75% interest in the 2 properties, and that he paid 74% of the taxes due.
