Police said a 14-year-old boy was defending himself and his mother when he shot and killed an intruder Monday afternoon at their home on Ocean Drive.
Capt. John Houston said the 14-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was home from school after becoming ill, and his 46-year-old mother, Rose Ann Kozlowski, had just returned from the grocery store when she was confronted by a man with a knife. ... After the robber caught the woman trying to untie herself once, she was able to free herself and her son and find her husband's pistol in a security box under the bed. She tried to shut double doors to the bedroom as the man tried to push them open and her son held the gun.
"She was using all her strength to push them," Houston said, adding that the boy aimed at the man through a space in the door and fired one shot.
"He shot once and hit him in the head, killing him instantly," Houston said. "He took a life-saving measure to save his mother and himself."

The danger must have been so imminent and real that survival instinct took over.
I'm with you---unless there are a dozen similar threads running all at once, I fail to see the attraction in pointing out the occasionally dupe thread.
Correction: "Home invasion ends in shooting; one dead"
Corrected Correction: "Home Invasion Ends In Shooting. Father of Three Dead"
You don't need a license to have a gun in your home in Texas.
One Bullet One Kill.
The boy should be proud.
Didn't see you pinged... yet.
Then again, maybe he just aimed.
Thak God the boy was home sick that day. I shudder to think what would have happened to his mother otherwise.
Mrs. Koslowski can be real proud of her boy!
I have an 80 yr. old aunt in Texas who "packs iron" and can shoot.
Hey! You stole my line!
Looks like UPI picked up the story, here is a Florida website using the UPI story: http://www.politicalgateway.com/news/read/41128
I wonder if LA or NY Slimes will pick it up?
"the teen fired a shot through the door and hit the intruder in the head"
Not unless he can see through a bedroom door.
Yeah, most days a guy could hang around all day waiting for a target to show up and this guy just walks right in and dares the little twerp to take him out.
Way to go Mom & Dad raising a son who knows how to shoot.
The line before that reads:
"She was using all her strength to push them," Houston said, adding that the boy aimed at the man through a space in the door and fired one shot.
I took the word them to mean that they were double doors and the kid fired through the crack at about head height. The intruder would have been centered on the door, pushing to get in.
