President Bush said Tuesday a vote for Democrats in the Nov. 7 election is a vote for higher taxes.
Changing his election-year focus from national security to the economy, the president criticized Democrats at a fundraiser for former Republican Rep. Mac Collins. Collins is seeking a comeback by challenging Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., in one of the few seats the GOP hopes to snatch.
"Next month, our nation has to make a choice: Do we keep taxes low so you can keep our economy growing? Or do we let the Democrats in Washington raise taxes and hurt the growth of the economy?" Bush asked. The White House distributed excerpts of his speech before the event.
The way voters cast their ballots will have a direct impact on their pocketbooks, Bush said.
"Whether you are a worker worried about the size of your paycheck ... or a business owner who is thinking about hiring more workers ... or a family worried about gas prices or health care costs, the last thing you need now is a higher tax bill," he said. "To keep this economy growing and delivering prosperity to more Americans, we need to make the tax relief permanent."
Bush singled out recent comments by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, the top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee.
"If you want to keep your tax cuts, vote Republican on Nov. 7," Bush said.

It doesn't matter if it's the truth, it's still a hurtful thing to say.
Bush says sun rises in east.
"He's just trying to divert Americans' attention from gay sex!"

Oh, Jennifer Loven, you worthless DNC hack, you can't help but editorialize in every AP piece of crap article, can you?
Democrats would repeal Bush tax cuts. That's raising taxes.
The countdown has started, to the moment Nancy Pelosi and Dingy Harry stand in front of a microphone and demand...DEMAND!!! the President retract his statements...
President Bush is correct.
President Bush, they won't raise taxes unless it has your signature on it.
And he will end up vetoeing everything in sight..
He knows the score....unfortunately...the Congressinal
Republicans are the ones who have put themselves in a
bind..if they supported the war..100%..they would have
no problem...even in Connecticut..where the only Dem
Senator, now Independent,,will prove that support for
vindication and killing the bastards is not a wishy
washy deal....comprende? Jake
I'm hoping I'm wrong about this, but I think the tax cuts expire in two years. If the Congress doesn't vote for their renewal, the taxes go up. The President's signature is only needed on a tax-cut extension.
"Bush says sun rises in east."
Nancy Pelosi in a statement to the pres said, Bush's obvious comment about where the sun rises is typical of an administration that has failed the American people.
Then we should have extended them. After all we have a GOP Presidency, A GOP House and a GOP Senate.
Bush says bears poop in the woods.
LOL
Night follows day, the sun rises in the east and democrats raise taxes.
Pres. Bush using the veto, has not yet with regard to spending. Hope your right , but it's hard to trust lame duck politicians. Remember the father "no new taxes", elites will do it for the "good of the country."
Whenever I see Jennifer Loven, I skip it...unless I'm interested in the latest Dem talking points memo.
