DANDONG, China (AP) -- China has canceled leave for its soldiers along the North Korean border and some units are conducting anti-chemical weapons drills after the North's nuclear test, a Hong Kong newspaper with close ties to Beijing reported Tuesday.
Leaves were canceled for Chinese troops in Jilin province, which accounts for about 80 percent of China's border with the North, the Wen Wei Po reported. Some units were "conducting anti-chemical drills," it said, without elaborating.

A customs official said the main customs posts on North Korea's border with China would shut to most traffic on Tuesday, restricting one of the isolated North's key portals to the outside world.
I think its more in preperation of a possible NK backlash against China as they start cutting off trade.
Isn't China the largest food supplier to NK? Old Chia Pet is gonna get powerful hungry before this is over.
Sadly he will be the last to be hungry.
One can only hope that China will clean up its mess.
Right you are!
More phony posturing by China. Don't fall for the ruse. NK is nothing but a puppet of China. Ask yourself who benefits from this "test". It is a win-win for China. There is absolutely no threat to them, their stature in the region is enhanced greatly, and all the laws China is breaking, from human rights to trade, are conveniently forgotten.
The question I have is China doing this purely for American consumption? Is lil' Kim a Chinese puppet?
I'd imagine they'd do it for purely financial reasons. The country that will pay the steepest price for instability in Asia is China. Their economy depends on the investments and trade flooding into the region. Kim's little fireworks display has the potential to really cut into China's bottomline.
The PLA's nuclear-bio-chem drills are preparation for possible nuclear fallout from any invasion of North Korea that might come from our side (which effort to aid North Korea would get the PLA effectively destroyed within weeks). China is arguing against sanctions and won't honestly participate in sanctions.
China may pay dearly for its support for a nuclear North Korea

This is probably to warn Uncle Sam to avoid attacking North Korea, with the underlying threat that China will help defend North Korea against American attack.
Not so... the ASEA countries are quite united in their disgust of NK.
They seem to be really all good friends down there - the MP of Japan was found joking with the chineese one (who had the presidency this time) sk, vietnam, thailand... all the others where attending the meeting with their highest heads.
On the same day there was the annual WTO meeting in Hongkong.... it was said that western leaders, especially the US president were a bit irritated about that parallel party going on.
If someone can bring this little maniak to reason it's the chineese. They could show him that he'll loose leadership if he doesn't change course to the better.
Their stature in the region is rank nr. 1 that's hard to improve.
The trade laws that china breaks are a riddle to me too. Why do our governments tolerate the mass theft of intellectual property ?
Any hassle about NK can't be desirabel to them. They are the major trade player down there (exception japan - they don't do much buiness with them)instability will spoil their trade.
There is no choice. Any product which will be sold in China must have its plans, and a working prototype submitted to the Chinese version of Underwriters Laboratories (UL). They then simply steal the IP, and give it to China Electric Corporation, or China Industrial Corporation, etc, to make it and sell it for half the price as Cisco, HP, Scientific Atlanta, etc. Once the company has racked up $1 billion or so in illegal international sales, they "settle" with the Western company they stole from, which just means that company gets to "partner" with China to sell the products there.
I am hoping one day some company will submit plans which are different from the prototype, and which explodes and leaks radiation when assembled and powered on. That'll learn 'em.
Meanwhile there is a new trend of companies which refuse to do business in China, because they don't want to get ripped off. Here is one of them, Cummins-Allison, who wont even sell their products to Chinese banks for fear of having them reverse-engineered.
If that was the case they probably be sending in a Covert Op. Commando Unit, What I see here is more of securing the borders from possible influx of refugee...I mean illegal Migrant Workers. Now's the best time to escape NKorea, believe me, Very soon Schools around the world will have to replace their outdated map when South Korea will be an Island.
bttt
Thanks, that was a good read - now there IS a choice to not have your chicken stolen while you're selling eggs.
A good business with china btw is selling them machinery for complex processes with complex software - and earn with the services.
I still don't understand why people still bring their blueprints. If there's no business without or it's chineese business after a short while otherwise - what's the long term win ? Don't do the deal then.
