Yes I have seen several ads saying "Tell President Bush to save Darfur". I've been thinking about that. What do they expect President Bush to do about it? The only meaningful thing that will stop the genocide is to go in there militarily and slaughter the Islamic militias then keep a presence on the ground for an indeterminable time, maybe years. Yet, these are the same types of people urging to save Darfur that are protesting us doing the same thing in Iraq. Are the libs saying that we should invade Sudan? Jeez, let's just let the UN send a strongly-worded letter. That will stop the genocide.

Sure, I agree with you on that. But, hat I am basically saying (in terms of food) is that the NK Leaders don't care a whole lot about their citizens starving, they already are. NK controls their people with food (and other tactics of course).

What exactly is Bush to do at this point? Thanks to the policies of Bubba that pretty much handed NK everything they needed, Bush is stuck with two options:

Diplomacy using regionl partners to hammer on NK at the UN and overall internationally or;

Military action which would likely trigger a Korean War that would take significant focus from our WOT - at a time when we really need to put a laser beam focus in Afghanistan and Iraq. Can we fight NK and win? Yes, but if that happens Iran will make it's move in the Middle East while we are engaged in NK and not as focused on Iraq and Afghanistan

President Bush's Statement on North Korea Nuclear Test
Diplomatic Reception Room

9:58 A.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Last night the government of North Korea proclaimed to the world that it had conducted a nuclear test. We're working to confirm North Korea's claim. Nonetheless, such a claim itself constitutes a threat to international peace and security. The United States condemns this provocative act. Once again North Korea has defied the will of the international community, and the international community will respond.

This was confirmed this morning in conversations I had with leaders of China, and South Korea, Russia, and Japan. We reaffirmed our commitment to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, and all of us agreed that the proclaimed actions taken by North Korea are unacceptable and deserve an immediate response by the United Nations Security Council.

The North Korean regime remains one of the world's leading proliferator of missile technology, including transfers to Iran and Syria. The transfer of nuclear weapons or material by North Korea to states or non-state entities would be considered a grave threat to the United States, and we would hold North Korea fully accountable of the consequences of such action.

The United States remains committed to diplomacy, and we will continue to protect ourselves and our interests. I reaffirmed to our allies in the region, including South Korea and Japan, that the United States will meet the full range of our deterrent and security commitments.

Threats will not lead to a brighter future for the North Korean people, nor weaken the resolve of the United States and our allies to achieve the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Today's claim by North Korea serves only to raise tensions, while depriving the North Korean people of the increased prosperity and better relations with the world offered by the implementation of the joint statement of the six-party talks. The oppressed and impoverished people of North Korea deserve that brighter future.

China, Russia and Iran care little of their image among the weak, western nations. They know we will continue to trade with them... up until their nukes fall on our cities

Bush is stuck with two options

That's where you're wrong. There are more options than diplomacy or invasion. The regimes of NK and Iran are both ripe for a fall, but it takes time to set those things up. The incentive for taking out Li'l Kim has now increased markedly -- his days are numbered. As I've said several times already, I China will do the legwork to set up a coup.

I thought it went back to the 50's. Gosh if only Bubba was at fault that would be easier to deal with than 50 plus years of this back and forth stuff.

The President, as you may recall, went to the UN before he dealt with Iraq. He's building his resources, biding his time, and putting his real game in play under the cover of a smoke screen known as the UN.
