"female reporter blaming Bush..no one mentions the rapist...damn"

The biggest part of the news media exists for one purpose only, and that is to elect Democrats.

If a reporter was to ask Clinton what he did about a nuclear North Korea, we'd get more red-faced finger pointing. And the knee pad wearing news media would go along with it.

Starving people can't rebel, and from what I hear, the Noko military isn't in a mood to rebel; they're well-fed just just a crazy as Li'll Kim.

I agree with what you've said. It makes sense.

The point about proliferation and terrorist states or organizations was where I got the sense that preemption was on the table.

He didn't say it, but did you hear it that way, too?

IMHO Kristol spoke reality, which is the 6 party talks have failed, NK has no incentive to stop, NK is a horrible and unpredictable regime which is especially dangerous to have nukes, NK only responds to threats of real action, the US should at least consider a quasi embargo to stop NK from exporting nuke and missile technology, and if we said this is unacceptable but now accept it, the world is going to begin to wonder if the US is credible any longer.

Are there enough fed-up North Koreans in exile to organize an overthrow of Lil' Kim?

I think we'd have a darn sight better chance of forcing regime change in Iran than in NK. It's a closed police state. How do you change a regime there?

That's a "movie" plot that sounds great. In reality, should we not ask the proverbial question: "Do the North Korean people truly have the will to overthrow an oppressive regime". If not, I'm not conviced sanctions will work. Besides, sanctions never worked for Iraq.

I would be inclined to think that if we launched a couple nukes over Pyongyang, that the Iranians would straighten up PDQ as well.

North Korea is slightly different as we can, literally, starve them out

This is what we've been trying for 50 years and it has not worked.

Looking at the plus/minus for China, with respect to dispensing with Li'l Kim's antics, I'd say there's no question that the "plus" side wins hands-down. Not just militarily, but also commercially.

If you think it's cheap for US companies to outsource to China, it's even cheaper for Chinese companies to outsource to NK.

Thanks, rhombus.

I'm going for a walk with my sister and will check in on developments when I return. Maybe by then it will be absolutely confirmed that NK tested a nuclear device last night.

Somewhere on FR I saw an unconfirmed report that the test was as big as the Hiroshima bomb. Let's hope that isn't true.
