President Bush addresees the nation from the White House 09:45AM ET
"Heads up" ping.
All talks should end immediately.
All financial accounts within the scope of the United States and her allies should be seized immediately.
All trade to North Korea to end immediately.
If North Korean nuclear weapons are found in the hands of any other state or terrorist group, Pyongyang will be destroyed. The West should state clearly that all its surveillance resources will be deployed to this end.
China has lost face by its client stepping this far out of line. As such, they may assist. Otherwise, choke the North Korean regime to death.
Regards, Ivan
We're not going to do squat. nK will keep their nukes, and Iran will get them. The US doesn't have the stomach to do anything about it, and no one else would back us if we did.
We need to consider how to live in a world with nukes in nK and Iran, 'cause we aren't going to stop them.
Well that about sums it up. Especially "unacceptable." These remarks by the President are unacceptable and only serve to increase tension and we the American people deserve better.
Doubtful. I didn't hear anything that you stated. President Bush came out and said that the world would handle this (we have heard this before). The UNITED NATIONS will handle this. President Bush did not say anything about the United States dealing with this. Nothing will be done. Perhaps a few security council meetings and so on.
I predict North Korea will test several more times. The world will stand by and watch. Iran will test within months as well. The world will stand by.
The only hope we have is Israel to deal with Iran. China to deal with North Korea. Nobody else is going to do squat.
Welcome to a whole new world!
I'm scared of 'em. I'm scared their fecklessness is going to get my city and me NUKED!
Agreed.
Pressure creates one of two things: Diamonds, or dust.
Only to you. The key phrase in your post: U.S. will meet full range of deterrent or security commitments... today's claim serves only to raise tensions while depriving the North Korean people.
The stuff you call "mush" is recognition that to do anything overt will result in the deaths of a couple of million South Koreans. That's not an acceptable choice.
The steel fist, however, is the term "full range of detterent or security commitments." There's a whole lot implied by that.
Further, the talk about "depriving the North Korean people" sounds like the run-up to a more active role in NK regime change.
Nobody was confused ;) Peach...
That's pretty much the Reader's Digest version. We're in for a flurry of statements, meetings, and condemnations, followed by no actions of any significance.
Sanctions have never worked against a dictatorship. I can't think of one historical situation where it made a positive difference.
If that's all they talk about doing, it surely is not enough.
Agree.. Now for the best part... How will the next 911 comission say the U.S. Government failed to connect the dots... In my opinion you can only say it once.
I will second those comments.
That's it! I thought I had posted a bigger one, but no go. Thanks!
"According to the Dems. This is all Bush's fault because he has such weak foreign policy."
surprise, surprise...
and it was FDR's fault for Pearl Harbor
Truman's fault for losing the Korean War
JFK & LBJ's fault for Viet Nam
gezzzzzzzz...
we have a WORLD situation and it's time for ALL Americans to come together, not to start pointing fingers as to who's fault it is.
How do you spell "embargo" in Chinese & NK.
Can Noko's conventional short-range missles reach the entire South Korean territory? Maybe if the Soko citizens could clear out of Seoul, military action against Noko would be more feasible.
