A new kind of Cold War is back. On top of the WOT, this isn't good.

Last night the govt of NKorea proclaimed it had conducted a nuclear test .. we're working to confirm.

has defied the int'l community and the int'l community will ??

All of us agree that the proclaimed action is unacceptable and deserves an answer by the Sec.Council of the UN

We would hold NKorea fully accountable

US remains committed to diplomacy

I reaffirmed that the US will meet the full range of our deterrents and committments

Today's claim by NK only serves to increase tensions

The oppressed and impoverished people of NK deserve more

Did the President seem to be stumbling over his words this morning? I FEEL for HIM so much right now. Mr. President, you have our family's prayers.

If the UN fails to act decisively NOW, then the USA needs to pull out of it and evict them.

Remember this Korean problem goes back to Bubba's administration.

Try the Truman administration, and every administration since. And, as President Bush's 'We accept this situation as unacceptable' speech showed, we're going to keep on sweeping this problem under the rug.

At this point I don't see why Taiwain doesn't build nukes. Better than letting the China invade and doesn't look like anyone else is going to help them if China gets aggressive (which it will eventually).

If Truman hadn't "lost" china in the first place the discussion would be academic.

I think N. Korea already had nukes before 2000.

I agree... but now they know it works.

W also spoke of bringing about the "de-nuclearization of the Korean Penninsula".

I wonder if any news-heads will seize on that phrase.....

Short and the usual doublespeak when it comes to N. Korea. "unacceptable behavior" "defies the will of the international community" "go to the UN to handle this".

Same thing that has brought us to N. Korea testing nukes. What can the UN do to stop them? Absolutely nothing.

"The oppressed and impoverished poeple of North Korea..." A good way to end.

Didn't really like all the crap about diplomacy, however.

"This aggression will not stand." GHWB 1990

"Terrorism against the United States will not stand." GWB 2001

"US remains committed to diplomacy... reaffirmed to allies that U.S. will meet full range of deterrent or security commitments... today's claim serves only to raise tensions while depriving the North Korean people." GWB 2006
