Bildt: North Korea nuclear test 'extremely serious'
Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt has described North Korean claims that it has carried out an underground nuclear weapons test as "an extremely serious development."
The test would have consequences both for stability in East Asia and for international efforts to stem the proliferation of nuclear weapons, Bildt said in a statement on Monday morning.
"While it has been assumed for a long time that North Korea has a few nuclear charges, a test of this kind is a conscious and serious provocation directed at the entire international community," he said, adding that while the information was unconfirmed there was cause to believe that the official North Korean version of events was largely correct.
Bildt called on the United Nations Security Council to discuss what measures could be taken following the test.
"As late as on Friday the UN Security Council said that a nuclear test would endanger peace, stability and security, and challenged North Korea to reenter the so-called six-party talks which it has boycotted during the whole of this year."

Have the Swedes blamed the Jews yet?
Seems like we need another General McArthur to lead a solid front of countries against the DPRK (north Korea), Iran and the other enemies of freedom.
What are they going to do about it, invade Norway? Again?
I think that's the narrative. Somehow, this will be laid at the feet of the "Neocons", code word for "Da Dchooze".
Build some modern furniture.
Sweden is run by a bunch of cowardly Socialist dhimmis (yeah, I know the new government is nominally conservative but they're still lefty by American standards), who can't even take any action to defend themselves, even as Islamofascists rioters are taking over their cities.
So a crazy government gets nukes, says F-You to the world, and all they want is a debate in the UN?
Enjoy Islamic rule Sweden. It will be upon you soon enough.
Give them 24 hours.
Oh NO! Not that!
I'm sorry but all these folks sounding off are cringing behind the U.S.' skirts. They are threatening that their big brother (US) is going to kick NK's ass.
I think the Swedish Army would be lucky to fight Lichtenstein to a draw.
Didn't you hear? Kim Jong and Albright share a set of Jewish grandparents.
"What are they going to do about it, invade Norway? Again?"
- Good Idea!
However, if Sweden wishes to dethrone the mad rulers of North Korea, Sweden will have to launch somewhat more explosive stuff than protests and political statements.
While Sweden has sent troops here and there around the world, for instance to Afghanistan recently, invading North Korea (which probably is necessary to achive the goal of stability in the region) is a completely different story from what has been done the last 50 years or so (since 1956, Sweden has sent around 80,000 soldiers on different missions around the world).
In the scenario of a UN lead invasion of North Korea (which I believe is better and more realistic than a operation lead by the Nato, the US, China or the EU alone), Sweden actually has a lot to offer.
Apart from the Armed Forces itself, Sweden has a lot of competent arms industry that's manufacturing, among other things, highly advanced fighter planes and submarines. Swedish arms exports is a billion dollar business and it's growing steady from year to year.
Furthermore, Conservative Swedish politicians like Bildt and Reinfeldt (New PM of Sweden) are more likely to send troops to North Korea than the former Social Democratic-Green-Left administration.
The Social Democrats sent troops to fight talibans in Afghanistan, so I wouldn't be surprised if the conservative politicians presently in charge would send troops to North Korea.

Sweaden, shut the hell up sissy boys,
too little too late.
Let's wait and do nothing until the geenie is out of the bottle.
They may be out of practice, but in the event of a Soviet invasion (circa 1972) the Swedes probably would have given a good account of themselves, similar to Finland in 1940-45.
How about a silent candlelight parade? THAT will really scare the NKs.
No, NO! NOT THAT! THAT'LL LEARN 'EM GOOD!
"Bildt called on the United Nations Security Council to discuss what measures could be taken following the test."
Now, that's taking action! LMAO (if it weren't so serious).
