A bizarre case of what appeared to be justifiable homicide rattled the heart of Seattle's swanky downtown shopping district late Saturday morning.

Seattle police are still piecing together what happened, but this much is known: A young man was killed on the crowded sidewalk outside Westlake Center, and the confessed shooter was allowed to walk out of a police station.

The case, according to police and witnesses, began at 11 a.m. Saturday with a 911 call.

The article said the prosecuter's office would determine if charges would be brought so he's not out of the woods yet.

"A young man was killed on the crowded sidewalk outside Westlake Center, and the confessed shooter was allowed to walk out of a police station."

What a freaking loaded statement.... Like" No shooting is justified, how dare they let a shooter go"

That is why I hate the media.

It looked to me like he shot him in self-defense," said Linda Vu, who was across the street from the shooting, handing out fliers for political activist Lyndon LaRouche. "It's kind of crazy."

Shooting a man in self defense is crazy, but the queen mother running drugs, well, now, that's perfectly normal.

The man in the yellow shirt apparently focused in on the second man, saying, "I am going to kill you," Brown said. He then began punching and kicking the second man until the man fell to the sidewalk.

"He was down there, minding his own business. There is nothing to think he was anything but a random target," Brown said.

The victim happened to have a concealed-weapons permit, Brown said, and he was carrying a handgun. He pulled out the gun and fired once, hitting his attacker in the abdomen.

Im going to kill you!

Oh Really? POW! Good shooting.

At least this paper used the correct term for a victim.

I am so used of hearing the person who does the crime listed as the victim.

Let's not lose track of the fact that this nut walked 8 blocks over a half an hour and he still hadn't been taken in by the gendarmes.

Nice work by the gentleman with the CCW. Way to take out the trash.

That surprised me too. I had to double check to make sure they were talking about the shooter.

Reminds me of the Indiana Jones movie where the attacker comes out with a sword or machette. Harrison Ford pulls out his gun and POW! End of fight.

This incident raises a number of disturbing and intriguing questions:

hitting his attacker in the abdomen.

Center mass. Not a bad idea. But if he'd had time, he should have gone for the head. Should we be critical of his shot placement?

"It looked to me like he shot him in self-defense," said Linda Vu, who was across the street from the shooting, handing out fliers for political activist Lyndon LaRouche."

How reliable a witness is someone who is working for Lyndon LaRouche? Don't they see weird, suspicious activity EVERYWHERE?

the victim, sitting on a streetside planter full of purple pansies,

Did the reporter just want to practice his alliteration skills? Or was he describing some new Seattle sexual oddity?

And finally, the question that I'm sure is on everyone's mind: what variety were the pansies to be blooming this late in the season?

Oh, and how big a mess did the dying piece of flotsam make?

"The shooting stunned Jim and Edith Welsh, tourists from Australia who'd just left the Nordstrom store across the street when police arrived. Peering across the police tape draped across Pine Street, Welsh hugged his wife. "I think we're going back to our hotel right now," he said."

Yep Ol' Jim got a Hard On from the smell of gun powder. Had to go back to the room to take care of business. Happens all the time.

I have a feeling that this "Shocked, I am! Shocked!" piece is just a set up for shock piece when they discover the identity of the shootee.

1) They will find he was mentally ill. "How DARE society mistreat its mentally ill in such a way!", or

2) They fill find out he was high on drugs. "Isn't it awful that someone didn't help the poor druggie?!", or

3) Homeless. (etc.)

4) The worst will be if the nut was a veteran. "See! See! Bush turns normal young men into psychopathic insane killers!"

Newspapermen have all the angles covered in "deploring", except to blame the kook for being a violent kook.

They have concealed weapons permits in Seattle? I'm surprised.

I think that we're all stunned at this. I wonder if this will be allowed to stand.
