Pelosi: Former FBI Director Wrong Man To Lead Page Program Investigation
(AP) House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Thursday he is looking for a high-caliber figure to step in and fix flaws in the congressional page program that left the teenagers vulnerable to sexual advances.
Hastert was on the verge of naming former FBI Director Louis Freeh, who boasts a long, high-profile career in law enforcement, for the post. But the speaker held off because of objections from Democrats.
Hastert had called House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday to notify her that he intended to hire Freeh to overhaul the program, their aides said. But Pelosi suggested it was too soon to make decisions about changing the program, and that Freeh might be the wrong man for the job.
That's about public relations for the Republican leaders, it's not about protecting the children, Pelosi, D-Calif., said in an interview with The Associated Press. It smacks of 'blame the victim.'"

Do you happen to know how she got the right/ability/power to "veto" this Freeh decision?
Hastert wanted to make a bi-partisan announcement, so he made the mistake of courteously informing Pelosi he wanted to put Freeh in charge of revamping the Page Program. No way was Pelosi going to give Hastert the chance to make an important, positive announcement at his press conference, so of course she balked. Why Hastert didn't see her refusal to agree coming, is 'beyond the sea'.
He is doing the thing all Republicans do--trying to play nice.
Why they do this, I have no idea, since it only makes them look like they can be had.
Lollapelosi?
(yes it's sarcasm)
I thought Bubba' was the obvious choice. ;)
"That's about public relations for the Republican leaders, it's not about protecting the children, Pelosi, D-Calif., said in an interview with The Associated Press. It smacks of 'blame the victim.'""
Not sure if Pelosi knows this, but legally, Foley is the victim and the democrats did a pretty good job blaming him.
What Nancy seems to want is only an investigation of whether any REPUBLICANS knew icky stuff about Foley and didn't do anything, not about whether there are other congressmen of either party who are behaving badly with these young people. Investigate THAT, Stretch.
Pelosi will try to get BenVeniste to be the "investigator", to do a repeat of the Democrat-written 9/11 report.....
Two reasons I can think of:
1: Republicans at least TRY to have honor, values, principles, and integrity.
2: Fence Sitters.
That second one is very important because remember the DBM/dems control what Fence Sitters see and hear from major media. Fence Sitters don't care to delve into details so they are truly uniformed. So, Repubs have to play nice or the DBM/dems will make them look like Evil Demons!
In other words, lets keep the story rolling thru the weekend and appointment somebody on Monday. Also - it looks like she has pre-judged the outcome of the investigation by saying it was too soon to make decisions about changing the program. Hastert needs to tell her to STFU and let the adults handle this, and he needs to do it TODAY!
Both parties entered into an ethics truce a few years back. What do you think? This is now about covering the butts of incumbents from both parties.
Not only do Democrats not offer any solutions to any issues, they don't want any solutions. They just want issues to complain about. Frankly, I think it is a travesty. The adversarial political system is supposed to work on the balance of competing ideas. The Democrats offer no loyal opposition. They merely oppose.
Who cares what the Democrat's think ? Their history includes defending the gay rape of page.
Freeh? Ooh, no! It definitely needs Barney Frank. He would do for this investigation what Gorelick did for the 9/11 Commission.
That's right. Most of our Republican reps are determined to be nice to these people--include them--all the while they take every opportunity, including many that are made up of course to destroy them...
I don't want Hastert to resign because of Foley--but we are not represented by people who know how to fight it seems. It would be great if we saw them and Hastert get off the PC kick and fight back, hard. We're letting these socialists set the agenda while sitting back being nice. That's not working. Do something, congress, damn-it.
