ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, have been protesting at military funerals since June of last year carrying signs with anti-gay slogans. Yesterday, they announced they were planning to protest the funerals of the Amish schoolgirls shot to death to death in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earlier this week, but they have since changed their plans.
With us now from Westboro Baptist Church is Shirley Phelps-Roper.
You changed your plans because Mike Gallagher has offered you airtime on his radio show, because you want to get your message out. What is that message?
SHIRLEY PHELPS-ROPER, WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH: The message is that God has put a standard in the earth. He expects his creatures to obey it. If you obey, he'll bless you. If you don't, he'll curse you. America has sent away her day of grace. America is doomed.--snip--
COLMES: Did those girls deserve to be killed?
PHELPS-ROPER: Well, they did get killed, and they did that. Who controls the hearts of men? It was at the hand of an angry God those girls are dead.
COLMES: Did they deserve to die?
PHELPS-ROPER: They did deserve to die.--snip--
SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Shirley, you really are a sick woman. You are a sick...
PHELPS-ROPER: Slight cold but thank you.
HANNITY: ...twisted human being. Where is your soul that you come on the air and as young innocent girls are going to die and you're going to you're going to open up the family's wound and pour salt on it? Where is your heart? Where is your soul? Where's your compassion? Where's your love?
PHELPS-ROPER: Our message is for the living, and that is the only loving thing to do.
HANNITY: What about the living families that lost their daughter?
PHELPS-ROPER: They did that to themselves.--snip--

If these people for one second believe that they're acting in the name of the Almighty while spewing this kind of zealotry, then, to paraphrase a rock song, Beelzubub has a devil set aside for them.
Wish Hannity would have asked her how they know that GOD did this singular tragedy
But I'm a Christian raised in a Baptist tradition and I'd be happy to FREEP the socks off of them.
***
Well, I meant in terms of being associated with these nutcases and sharing their views, but you have my permission to smack any of them upside the head with the nearest heavy skillet. And I'm not a violent person either. :)
Can't the Baptists sue them for implying these nut jobs are supported by them?
I'm not surprised at all.
This is no worse than those who claimed America deserved the 9-11 attacks.
Or even some of the posts I've seen on FR by those who rejoice in the suffering and deaths of our enemies and those they personally consider evil.
I agree with your take on the use of the "Baptist" name. There are lots of people out there that call themselves Catholic who are anything but practicing Roman Catholics. You can't walk around with a zapper and vaporize them.
Excellent point.
Didn't know that. Thanks.
Did Hannity do this for ratings? Why would he give them air time?
...your lips to God's bullets
This makes no sense...if anyone follows God's will it's the AMISH...they just want tv time.
They are neither Baptists, nor are they Christians.
Why even give her airtime? Hannity and Colmes share part of the blame for her getting her stupid message out.
If an "angry God" was punishing anybody Phelp's and his sick peices of sh!t would all die of copromesis.
My God must hate the Phelps family for making them so damn ugly. (just using her logic regarding guilt)
First God hated fags. Now God hates the Amish. Before we're done, I know I'm going to see these puds camped outside kennels with signs reading "GOD HATES PUPPIES AND KITTENS". I may be a very bad Christian, but the more the Phelpses talk, the less desire I have for God to show mercy on them.
I'm not sure how many organizations of Baptists there are, but I'm sure these "BINOs" would be expelled from the Southern Baptists or the American Baptists.
I would become violent in a hurry if one of these sick f#$ks came within striking range.
