Well, of course, it's orchestrated. And maybe some of the stuff was a prank on the part of teens who got a thrill from making a Congressman look like a textbook-case pervert. But the thing is, this Congessman WAS a textbook-case pervert, and apparently many leaders in his party knew that and didn't much care about it, just so long as he could win elections.

What's going to happen? To listen to Rush and to read FReeRepublic, it's all going to come back to haunt the Democrats. To read National Review Online, it's going to destroy the Republican majority. I'm inclined to think the latter is more likely.

And you know that the leadership knew how?

Please explain DNC basement rat.

Well, you have to remember that Rush's record as a predictor of elections has been very short of stellar. (There's a reason he's a commentator and not a politician....he'd be awful at it!) His instincts are for entertainment based impact, not for political wisdom. Remember, he's the one who assured everyone that Hillary would never run for Senate and that if she did, it would be close. I haven't heard him sound this frantic and desparate since 1998 when Gingrich and Lott were assuming that, because of historical trends they were going to pick up 20-30 seats without having to push an agenda. This was also the time when Rush was also trumpeting the death of the Democratic Party and the mainstream press. After the Pubbies got their heads handed to them and hung on with a bare majority in the House we didn't hear that anymore, until about 2 years ago.

YOU are assuming that other Congressmen knew about these sleazy IMs and that has not been proven. They are swarming Hastert to get anything close to an admission of this, but they are fishing. From Drudge's report today I could surmise that at least one boy thought it was a joke, a rite of passage to get "hit" on via IM by Foley. That was wrong. He was preying on pages in an even more disgusting way than clintoon hit on interns. This story is over......Foley is exposed and out, to keep leaking this to the media is possibly "outing" these young men -- something the dem base will not like.

If the dems think the voting base of the conservatives is so wussy that they will run from the Republican party or national security because of this they are really desperate.

Oh really?

How many republicans do you know are now saying, well...only Nancy Pelosi has the moral authority to govern us? How many?

Some people need to get a grip.

Unless these pages TOLD the Congressional leaders that this was occurring, how on earth would they know? I've not seen any proof that Hastert or anyone else knew what this guy was doing. As far as I've read, the only knowledge that he was contacting former pages was in 2005 when the parents of the young man from Louisiana contacted Hastert and asked him to tell Foley to stop communicating with their son. Those contacts were NOT sexual, though it's likely that if the young man had continued the e-mails, it might have escalated to that.

Foley's seat was a 'safe' Republican seat, so they could possibly have had another candidate in that district. I guess we'll find out this year just how 'safe' it is, though I'm sure that's one reason the Democrats targeted Foley, and did so AFTER the deadline for a replacement candidate could get on the ballot, thinking that the scandal would keep Republicans home.

I'm inclined to think the latter is more likely. Like Rino Central NRO, some of the hate the GOP always Freepers seem unable to grasp the fact the OLD media doesn't run the show anymore. We have our OWN media which is more then adapt at nuking these dirty tricks from the Dems. Like most Political junkies it seems old time " Conservatives" are so wrapped up in this stuff that they project their belife onto the people as a whole. Most people do NOT care. This matters in the little political-media bubble world and NO where else. Just like the Abu Graibe, Fitmus, Bush National Guard, 09-11 Comission Circus etc etc etc the supposed power of the media is exagerated and hyped by the drama queens. Meanwhile in the real world, people are worried about their kids future, paying their bills, an a whole lot of REAL issues. Those are the things the voters will be thinking about NOT this manufactured hype and hysterics in the Junk Media about some Congress critter no one had ever heard of being a fag. Foley is GONE

Where on earth do you even get that? Apparently many leaders knew? What are you basing that on?

As far as National Review goes; you do understand that some of those people would wet their pants at the drop of a hat?
