According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.
The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.
The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.
The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

Well...he did list "ballroom dancing" on his my-space hobbies list. In one of the IMs he also tells Foley about how he just got home from waltzing lessons.

Right, I first heard the gay talk about him years ago and I don't even live in his state. I think it is more likely that he had other conversations with young men.
You got that right. I was hoping someone would explain it. Maybe ConservativeMind could do a search for it.
But didn't Foley actually send the messages? How does that make them fake?
If what Drudge has posted is true, these electronic brown shirters who villified Denny, other republicans and us for standing up for Denny, need their posting privileges revoked until after the elections.
Some of the vile bs they have posted today has been unbelieveable.
honestly, this 'news' smells. anyone who read those messages would have a hard time finding them to have been a 'prank' even if from an admittedly (now) gay man.
People who think this affair helps the republicans in any way, or who believe this 'news' like gospel, are missing a big point - no one is going to find the IM's a favorable item for republicans, and the Freeh 'investigation' will drag out beyond the election.
As you note, he resigned IMMEDIATELY, meaning there is surely a heck of a lot of fire somewhere for this much smoke.
EVEN if true we need a house cleaning after the election. These guys are starting to make the same mistakes the Dems do. Some of the Staffers on our side did try to cover this up.
So while the kids were pranking sex talk, Foley was probably serious. He didn't know it was a prank, that's why he stepped down.
Hey, at least I can spell "serious" right when I want to! ;-) Foley is toast and deservedly so. Even if this was baiting, he was responsible for his behavior and should've know this kind of crap would wind up haunting him. What's his district like? Moderate or conservative? Anybody know?
I think it's been pretty well established that Foley is a pervert who likes teenage boys, and we're well rid of him.
That does not negate or excuse the despicable behavior by the Democrats and the media in smearing the entire Republican party and, to at least some extent, orchestrating how and when this information leaked to the public.
One thing the 'rats haven't counted on is the contrast between how Republicans handle this sort of thing verses how they handle it. We dump 'em; they honor 'em.
