Tancredo Voices SPP Concerns to Commerce

Expresses Concern that Multi-National Body Aims to Undermine U.S. Sovereignty

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today asked Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez in a letter to suspend plans that would further a proposal known as the “Strategic Partnership for Prosperity,” or SPP until Congress has a chance to examine its goals and determine whether or not they are consistent with those of the Congress.

“I know the administration has given assurances that the SPP is not a veiled effort to create a ‘North American Union,’ nor an effort designed to dilute American sovereignty by entering into a European Union-like arrangement with Canada and Mexico,” said Tancredo, Chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. “Unfortunately, however, [the SPP’s] ‘recommendations’ seem to be at odds with those assurances.”

Tancredo concluded, “As such, I would ask that you consider suspending Commerce Department participation in this tri-lateral effort.”

Several alarming “recommendations” from the U.S. component of the “North American Competitive Council” (NACC) suggested that the U.S., Canada and Mexico “Work toward acceptance of equivalent standards, objectives, surveillance and enforcement.”

In the section on pandemic control, the Council recommends that “…all borders and major roads remain open…to allow the unimpeded flow of domestic and international commerce.”

The most troubling recommendations appear in the section entitled “Improving Cross-Border Mobility (Goods / Services / People).” In that section, the NACC recommends that “the governments evaluate moving customs processes further inland…to take the pressure off the border,” and to examine “harmonizing commercial processes for clearance of commercial shipments.”

The NACC goes even further by recommending that “The Secretary of DHS…set up a limited short term pass program or otherwise facilitate people who come to the border without documents,” and that “...a reasonable grace period should be established at border crossings during which time people without documents are educated about their options and allowed to pass.”

The Tancredo-haters haven't arrived due to time zone differences and a balky drip coffeemaker. However, they promise to be here soon to smear Tancredo in the ususal fashion.

Tancredo is a co-signer of the Resolution 473 against NAFTA Highways

Tancredo also brings home money to improve the NAFTA Highways in his state.

Well, let's get rid of all who are not beyond reproach. It's a good thing that we have so many people at FR who can catch these earth-shattering details in order to weaken those in Congress who are on our own side.

It's really about opposing anyone who loudly says our borders should be secure.

Mexico's president's own National Action Party (http://www.pan.org.mx) is now working with its governors in Northern states near the U.S. border to pressure George Bush to veto the border wall. Details (in Spanish) are here:

http://www.el-universal.com.mx/notas/379772.html

These same people hypocritically haven't lifted a finger to make Mexico's own immigration laws less anti-gringo and racist against us down there:

What do they seek, a conquista of U.S. territory that Mexico claims because a few of its inhabitants relatively briefly occupied the land after they stole it from Spain (which stole it from indigenous tribes)?

In the section on pandemic control, the Council recommends that “…all borders and major roads remain open…to allow the unimpeded flow of domestic and international commerce.”

If this were to happen, it would be a disaster for Americans (mainly American hispanics) as Mexicans would flood all the hospitals on the border. FEMA must have planned this. No American in his right mind would do something this stupid except FEMA.

"FEMA must have planned this. No American in his right mind would do something this stupid except FEMA."

FEMA is merely the latest example of a bureauacrcy totally out of control.

You can add to it the CIA, FBI, NSA, DHS and just about the rest of the alphabet soup menu of useless bloodsuckers and incompetent fumblers. Bloated, slow, and completely disinterested in anything other than protecting their turf, consolidating power, and acquiring as much as possible in the way of pay & benefits while simultaneously avoiding anything that might jeopardize their cushy federal jobs, impede promotions or subject them to criticism. What's best for America, if they think about it at all, is so far down their priority list it may as well not be on there at all.

We should ask ourselves one question: is there anyone left who trusts--really trusts--the federal government?

I don't think many people trust the govt. However, I am more concerned about their incompetence.Should we have a pandemic this is what will happen:

In the section on pandemic control, the Council recommends that “…all borders and major roads remain open…to allow the unimpeded flow of domestic and international commerce.”

The reason I used FEMA as an expample is because of their incompetence during and after the huricane.

The population of McAllen is 140,000 according to the signs. Probably a lot more. McAllen has 3 hospitals with approximately 700 beds total in all. McAllen is 9 miles from Reynosa which has a population of a half million. The Mexicans come now for free health care, but just think about the results of a pandemic. The hospitals will be packed with citizens of another country. Unreal.

Just think about the area you live in, the population and number of hospital beds available. Beds available are probably less than 1% of the population. Could your area accomodate another country in the time of a pandemic?
