Hartnett Has His Suspicions About Wellstone's Plane Crash
StarTribune ^ | 10/04/06 | Cheryl Johnson

Count Josh Hartnett among the conspiracy buffs regarding Sen. Paul Wellstone's untimely death in a 2002 plane crash in northern Minnesota. The cover boy in this month's GQ says, " 'It didn't make any sense' " about the accident that killed Wellstone, his wife, Sheila, their daughter, the pilots and three others.

"He's angry, and he's not convinced that pilot error or mechanical failure or fog was to blame for the crash," writes GQ's Alex Pappademas, who noted that Hartnett "points out how close the race was, how Republicans were hell-bent on winning control of the Senate, how George W. Bush" made several visits to Minnesota "to support Wellstone's opponent, Norm Coleman."

Hartnett is quoted as saying, "It was really, really suspicious, but I don't even want to think that. I just hope it's not true, because that would just be so, so, so wrong."

You forgot the FAA waiver that members of Congress automatically get when weather would otherwise
ground the plane.

Hartnett. I recognize the name from that Hans Solo cop/realtor movie.

Well, if you start a false rumor many will bite just because their ignorant or stupid.

This describes a majority of the Democrat Party and especially their leaders.

Wellstone was a left leaning commie from the great state of Minestrone.

His girlfriend is Scarlett Johansohn who has recently said she wouldn't be caught dead at any Republican gathering. OY...I wish these people would shut up.

Well, I'm glad the intellectual elite is finally weighing in. Does Pee Wee Herman have an opinion, yet? ;)

Seriously, I still don't know who this guy is.

I've heard of Scarlett. Probably because I hang out here too much.

In a related story, a golfer in a pro-am tournament in Marin County California was struck and killed by lighting during the final 9 holes of the final round. He was edging up on the leader and might have overtaken him......but then this socalled 'accident' happened......we are all very very suspicious, and who wouldn't be?

Wow! Rove got both Carnahan and Welstone! I guess he was practicing when he got Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, and then decided to "expand" when he got Stevie Ray Vaughn!

Without having all the details at hand, it would be impossible to determine if this was an accident or a crime.

But a possible motive for the Dems would be to change the dynamic of a race in which their guy was trailing and probably would lose. Remember that the Dems could well have been more interested in gaining a Senate majority than in a particular senator's life. So the idea might be to get rid of Wellstone and replace him with the more popular Mondale amid a wave of voter sympathy for the deceased's family and friends, who endorsed Mondale after the death. It wouldn't have to work out precisely as planned for an investigator to consider the possibility of foul play.

BTW, I'm more suspicious of the airplane crash death of Mel Carnahan in Missouri as he was campaigning for the US Senate in 2000. In that instance, the Democrats retained the dead Carnahan on the ballot and he won the Senate race nonetheless. The outgoing Dem governor then appointed the deceased's widow to fill the "vacant" seat to which he was elected. All without a court challenge from the passive GOP!

It can't be ruled out that the Dems' "success" in Missouri in 2000 encouraged them to try something similar with Wellstone in Minnesota in 2002.

Not only did Heinz die in a plane crash, but that happened the very next day after John Tower (a former GOP senator) died in another plane crash.

Coincidence? Maybe, but maybe not!

Well, I heard that Josh Hartnett likes to have sex with little boys in their school library while rehearsing lines for his next movie.

I hope it's not true, though, because that would be so, so, so wrong.
