Universality is constantly sought after among all peoples. Seemingly like captives of an ever shifting, re-inventing NYC culture, the "Polish-American" boy meets "Puerto Ricana" girl, and both find True Love. It helps them best that both are from strong Catholic backgrounds. Their Universal draw is to the Sacraments of their Faith.
It's not by mere coincidence that Amy Drozdowska's letter reminds the reader that we are a consuming creature. This is no small matter in exploring the fact that "man does not live by bread alone...". Many "hyphenated-Americans" search their ancestral past for a link to Our Creator. In our American heart, we know this country as yet another temporal lodging for the Real real estate that awaits us in Heaven.
Welcome to the West Side Story. The work of our hands, or in this case, our "cultures", are made beautiful with Sacramental Grace. And as St. Paul tells us, Love does not seek itself (or, its own kind). If there is beauty in our nation, in our culture, and indeed in the entire world, it is because all Life, all Grace, and all Holiness comes from God.
"Come, come with me, and we will make short work;
For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone
Till holy church incorporate two in one."
