Dotzauer is working in Cantwell's campaign, and has been Cantwell's boss in the past. Dotzauers divorce had been sealed, which is unusual.
Stephan Sharkansky at Sound Politics is THE conservative blogger in the Pac NW. He got the divorce papers unsealed (all 14 volumes of them . . .) and the rest is at the link provided.
Here's a bit of it:
"The Seattle Times has recently reported on the close ties between Sen. Maria Cantwell and former boyfriend, boss and campaign consultant, lobbyist Ron Dotzauer. Begging explanation is a $15,000-$50,000 personal loan to Dotzauer reported in Cantwell's financial disclosures since 2001. (See Times articles here, here and here).
The loan was apparently extended to help Dotzauer through messy divorce litigation. The Times didn't mention that the court file, oddly, was entirely sealed. I had the file unsealed last Thursday. Cantwell is identified as the "other woman".

It's just sex. Everybody does it. Can't we just put this behind us and move ahead with the business of running the country? This is all a part of a coordinated smear campaign by evil Republicans who want to steal from poor peope and give tax cuts to wealthy people who don't need them. The Republicans are bringing this up before a campaign to smear an innocent woman who is the real victim, not the wife of the lobbyist who probably wanted to divorce his wife anyway. This is a ploy by the Republicans to distract voters from the real issues, which are that Bush is stupid and a liar, and his war for oil in Iraq has made the world far more dangerous than if we just were nice to the people in the middle east.

The reaction of Dotzauer to inquiries from the press is too weird. Dotzauer claims he can't remember what the money was for and Cantwell simply refused to comment at all. I'm having a hard time believing that there isn't something funny going on.
More like a sugga momma payoff to keep her fling going. God knows how long this affair went on.

As to her politics, she is an FDR Democrat from a Polish immigrant family, a devout Roman Catholic; she represented her working-class district in the House in a true spirit of public service. She is sensible about the need to compromise in politics, and probably one of the few incorruptibles in Congress on either side.
She is honest, unpretentious and a genuinely decent person. She is interested in other points of view and can engage in a spirited discussion without being rancorous or petty.
I wish that Freepers could avoid personal abuse of political opponents. I'm guilty of it myself, sometimes, but cringe when I think how small it makes us, and FR look.
