The Seattle Times reports "House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wants the House Ethics Committee to put Republican leadership under oath to find out what they knew about Congressman Mark Foley's inappropriate communications with Congressional pages."
In a statement, Minority Senate leader Harry Reid (D) described the allegations against Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) as 'repugnant.' "Equally as bad," the Nevada Democrat said, "is the possibility that Republican leaders in the House of Representatives knew there was a problem and ignored it to preserve a Congressional seat this election year."
Now wait a minute...
Then President Bill Clinton had not been sending inappropriate suggestive emails and instant messages to a young intern, an act certainly repugnant no matter the authors' politics. He had reduced the previously revered Oval Office, to just a personal sexually perverted play pen.

I agree with you that there certainly are a lot of examples of Democratic hypocrisy from which to choose. I do think, though, that the Mel Reynolds pardon is the most unanswerable by the Democrats for two reasons: 1. it is recent, and the pardon was granted by the man who is, arguably, the leader of their party (and who they rhapsodize about to this day); and 2. you can't get off with even the most ridiculous strained factual dodges to avoid the issue, like claiming Barney Frank "didn't know" about the escort service. Mel Reynolds was convicted criminally; he had a full factual inquiry, including the protections of the criminal justice system and the beyond a reasonable doubt standard. His conversations were on tape. There is no factual question as to what he did, nor as to what Bill Clinton did. I think you can clear away a lot of the obfuscation that the Dems love to use and get down to essentials pretty quickly on the Reynolds matter.
Yeah, but in 1983 Congressman Gerry Studds (D-Mass) had sex with a 17-year old male page. Not only did he not resign, but won re-election.
got it.
16 may be the legal age. In 1983 a Democrat Congressman had sex with a 17 year old male page and Continued to serve. He maintained it was sex between two consenting adults.
I have no idea how they calculate age of consent for internet sex....
True enough, however, one can argue that Monica exhibited the emotional maturity and judgement of a 16 year old. Moreover, although Foley was an influential and powerful congresscritter his realm pales significantly when compared to the most powerful man in the world, i.e. Clinton at the time of Monicagate.
"This is all bout disrupting Republican voters by calling their guys hypocrites while espousing family values. If it was a Dem the left would be defending him."
That is one dimension. A second big dimension is Republican scandal, coverup.
Couple those with other democrat mantras, and it could sting a lot.
This Foley crap is nothing but nonsense and noise. He resigned. He is under investigation. He will be prosecuted. Meanwhile the REAL important stuff is not being talked about so the Junk Media drama queens can hyperventilate about a complete NON issue and divert attention off the Democrats complete lack of anything that even looks like a sane idea of a plan for our future.
You tax bill, the War on Terrorism, the Border, your kids future, NSA bill pending in front of Congress, Judges, Spending, Jobs and the Economy, ALL the real issues that the next Congress will have to deal with will STILL be here and need a resolution a month from now when NO one even remembers Foley's name. Voters are going to be thinking about that not the crap in the Junk News media.
IF the Democrat Noise machine was the all powerful Vote outcome determinate people fear, John Kerry would of won in 2004. Conservative who spend too much time near the Junk Media machine get sucked into the game. This is important to the media, no one else.
The emails are weird and sick but nothing in them that is against the law. However, it doesn't matter. Foley is a scumbag and if he broke the law, which he probably didn't since Democrats have pushed the age of consent down to 16 in DC and Florida in pandering to the Gay lobby, he is going to jail. The rest of this is just Junk Media noise.
In his Government supplied office. IF it had been anyone but a Pro Abortion President of the USA he would of been SO gone. Besides which the sex is irrelevant. The Chief Law Enforcement Office on the US lied under oath and the Junk Media, with the help of gutless RINO Senators simply swept it all under the rug.
Two different people involved. The IMS are not to the 16 year old.
IMS were to an adult. Emails to a 16 year old. Two different people involved here.
Foley's scum no one is arguing. The point here is the hypocrisy of the Democrat Noose machine People should find out the facts
The IMs are not to a 16 year old. I suspect the IMs were supplied by some jilited queer from Foley's past trying to get even and the Democrat Noise machine simply found the emails useful cover to obfuscate the fact that the IMS are to an adult
That depends. Certain states have age-difference statutes for minors - for example Florida law makes it a second-degree felony for anyone over 24 to have physical sexual contact with a 16- or 17-year old, in section 794.05.
emails and instant messages are not sex...
two males are not sex...
Only a male and female joined in coitus is sex...
"You can't have sex with kids, though."
An 18 year old isn't a kid.
You also shouldn't be giving condoms to 6th graders or teaching that a homsexual lifestyle is acceptable. But the Left does this every day in our public schools.
The RATS are playing the exclusion game while claiming they are the party of inclusion.
Also, this isn't about Foley. It's about the RATS trying to bag Hastert four weeks before an election. Bottom line is Foley is a fag and the world knew it. The only people that didn't know it were Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson.
The Intern in question was 16 at the time. In DC, 16 is the age of consent. Therefore he is not a pedofile.
