The email story was also given to the Miami and St Petersburg papers at the same time it became known to the staff members of the two congressmen.

The papers looked into and decided it wasn't worth reporting on.

Neither paper could be considered of conservative leaning.

Well, this is all true, no doubt. But an easy way to avoid being set up as a predatory homosexual pedophile is not to be one in the first place.

Hugh Hewett makes the excellent point that any DEMS who may have sat on this info are guilty (perhaps criminally?) of aiding the perv...

So, let's go along with the gag and get the DEMS (and staffers) TO SAY UNDER OATH if/when they first learned of any of this.

The unsavory odor of a Dem (and I hate to use the word, I really do) conspiracy wafts about this issue.

While we're putting Congress peeps under oath, we should also keep in mind some members and staffers within the Senate, and possibly even Hillary Rodham's fondness for maintaining damning files on people who happen to disagree with her.

Let me provide you with a very good rule of thumb.
Never defend pedophiles.
Never defend those who cover for pedophiles.

I would agree, except for the fact that there is too much collective wisdom on Free Republic for it to be cast aside. If ever the 'thinking' of the freepers was needed, it is now,...not unlike when the MSM confabulated a story over Bushs' Texas National Guard service. I think many in congress read FR and learn much.

I didn't even know Foley existed before this news came out. I didn't think a Republican could get elected in West Palm Beach, so whats the deal with this guy? Was he a moderate, sometimes supporting gay agenda stuff, or was he pretending to be a religious conservative against homosexuals? That seems to be the crux of the matter. Its all about the hypocrisy.

FINALLY. A sane thread promoting good common sense and the rejection of knee-jerk reactions.

How long before it's hi-jacked by doom and gloom vagabonds?

Sir, you are 100% right on. It amazes me how desperate the Democrats are and it shows their character. How could they ever be in leadership again. Let's get the Republican base fired up.

I agree with the American Thinker.

We need a DOJ investigation on the genesis of this entire tale.

Whatever unethical or illegal behavior that Foley committed, he should be held to account for them.

However, if there was a politically contrived conspiracy to (1)selectively hold and (2)selectively dish out information that actually warrants an ethics or legal proceeding against Foley, until it would be politically advantageous, until 30 days before a national election would not allow time to have the matter cleared up, then a set of conspirators should be charegd with obstruction of justice.

Additionally, anything that is fraudulent about the IM messages should result in criminal prosecution of those who committed the fraud.

To sum it up: The DEMS play dirty and the Repubs are too dumb to wake up to that fact. They should have dealt with the 'Foley Problem' back when they FIRST got a hint of a double life. It should have been dealt with via a quiet, private meeting in which Mr. Foley decided he needed to 'pursue other private interets' and no longer had time to serve in Congress. And they (the Repubs) should have told him that if he opened his trap his balls would be busted for real. But the Repubs are always too nice. Makes me sick and I'm a Republican!

The Democrats are going to be in a world of hurt when their calls to protect children boomerang on them because they had the details of a crime and stayed silent, leaving children exposed and abused, to maximize their votes on this issue.

A world of hurt...
