Conservatives Call on Hastert to Resign

by Robert B. Bluey

House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R.-Ill.) is coming under fire from conservatives for his failing to take action against disgraced Rep. Mark Foley (R.-Fla.), who resigned last week for inappropriate communications with teenage pages.

“Speaker Hastert had knowledge of Congressman Foley’s inappropriate behavior and chose to protect a potential pedophile and powerful colleague over a congressional page,” said David Bossie, president of conservative advocacy group Citizens United.

Joining Bossie’s call for Hastert to resign was nationally syndicated radio show host Michael Reagan.

“Any member of Congress who was aware of the sexual emails and protected the congressman should also resign effective immediately,” Reagan said. “I was sexually abused by a day camp counselor at age eight and also made to be part of child pornography.”

Hastert said in a news conference Monday that neither he nor other Republican leaders knew about the lurid exchanges between Foley and the teenage pages dating back to 2003. “As a parent and speaker of the House, I am disgusted,” Hastert said.

However, that didn’t blunt the criticism from Bossie and Reagan. Bossie’s group, which is best known for producing the movies “Celsius 41.11” in 2004 and the just-released “Border War,” said Hastert had failed in his duty to investigate the matter “before it became a public relations problem.” Bossie said the problem may cost Republicans control of the House in November as a result.

“This inaction demonstrates a lack of leadership on Speaker Hastert’s part, and calls into question both his judgment and character,” Bossie said. “If Speaker Hastert was willing to sacrifice a child to protect Rep. Foley’s seat and his own leadership position, then he surely does not share our American and conservative values.”

My wife is a lib, but what you write is not entirely true of her:

Liberals are the offspring of the hippies that did a lot of drugs and alcohol during pregnancy, rendering them totally incapable of rational thought.

She's too young to be a hippy victum; however, she's a victum of Political Correctness and the MSM.

I think it's a great idea - Hastert has been a non-entity for years. He is easily one of the most ineffective Speakers I've seen in many years. The emails alone should have alerted him that something was amiss. This is a gay Congressman emailing young teens. "Over friendly" emails from a gay congressman to a young teen is a big red flag, let's be real here.

Well, between the Washington Times and these two clowns, I am thoroughly fed up.

Here I am, a housewife and grandma in the Midwest without any important contacts, and I apparently understand this story better than these two, who are PAID for their opinions.

I am going to go watch the Food Network. It's easier on my blood pressure.

If the Washington Times wants to go down that path the hell with them. In the end 95 percent of Republican voters never heard of them.

It is beyond me that we are not attacking the true enemy here.

Michael was on H&C. He said if Hastert KNEW about the IMs, he should resign.

Sean did ask a good question - if these have been around for three years, who had them, where have they been, and why are they being released now?

Hastert lost me after he pulled those shenanigans with the Jefferson mess. That was ridiculous. If one of your aides comes to you and says Foley is sending "overly friendly" emails to young teen pages, you straighten it out immediately, not let it sit for months. I don't care about the IMs, the emails should have raised red flags. A 50-year old gay man asking for a 16-year old's photo? That's not normal behavior, people.

I caught the same, Michael said "If any one knew of the emails"
I really thought he was being very wise. He may have meant any one [maybe dims]. I really didn't think he was talking about Hastert.

These are the same fools who threw Lott overboard in hopes of getting a "real conservative" majority leader in the Senate. Instead we got Frist...just as spineless...but less effective.

The truly stupid reason for eating our own is not racism or a failure to protect pages, but an insane belief that "real conservatives" will somehow replace moderates...dispite history or reality.

" how long have democrats known about the instant messages in order to be able to prepare and plan?"
THAT"S THE KEY HERE. Whoever had them this long and DID NOTHING was someone who didn't give 2 damns about the kid and just held on to the IMs as a political weapon .That person (or persons) needs to be ratted out and crucified!

Boy I am sure losing faith in a alot of so-called Republicans lately. First was the fat piece of crap "Blackjack" Bill Bennett, for supporting Bill Clinton's demands to censor "Path to 9/11". Now Ronald Reagan's adopted son, who would be a absolute nobody without his name, having little by way of intellectual mettle, as he is proving with the Foley case. Bossie I don't know from Adam, so I can't say I am disappointed.

Yep, that's what idiots like Reagan and the Wash Times editors just don't get by joining the RATs witch hunt. This whole matter is so damn trivial in the scheme of a war on terror. These cowards should be ashamed of themselves.

If the RATs win, Rangel defunds the WOT and Al Queda is strengthened, I hope people remember the traitorous pussies amongst us who lacked the will to FIGHT these vicious bastards across the aisle, who not only don't care about America's children, but push sexual deviacy on them in schools across the nation every single damn day.

FIGHT DAMMIT, FIGHT!

Can we at least have an investigation before we have the lynching?
