NOTE: Mark Foley should have resigned earlier and should be prosecuted to the full extend of the law.

- Farrar thrust himself through the open window and into the car. Looking up, he found the body of a young woman. Her head was cocked back, her face pressed into the footwell. Both hands gripped the front edge of the back seat to hold herself in conformity with its upholstered contours. It was not the position assumed by a person knocked unconscious by the impact of a crash, Farrar said. "If she had been dead or unconscious, she would have been prone, sinking to the bottom or floating on top. She definitely was holding herself in a position to avail herself of the last remaining air that had to be trapped in the car." - Farrar took hold of the woman's thigh, and as soon as he touched the body he knew she was dead; the flesh in his hand was hard as wood. "Instead of life-saving, I realized I was now evidence-gathering," Farrar said. "Because I was the only person who would be able to observe this situation, it behooved me to pay attention to what I saw underwater to be able to report it."

In the furor over the disgraced GOP congressman Mark Foley, let's go back in time, shall we? Don't you just love the headline that GOP leaders knew of some Foley email in late 2005?
It was July 19, 1969 when the drunken Ted Kennedy, possessing no current drivers license, drove his Oldsmobile off the bridge, ran away like a coward, and left Mary Jo Kopechne to suffocate when the oxygen ran out in her air pocket.
The Democrat leaders at the time were Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield of Montana and Speaker of the House John McCormack of Boston, Mass.
There is no doubt they knew what happened. We didn't have email in those days. Kennedy did not send an email to Mary Jo. He killed her. He did no jail time. There was a coverup. He paid off the family.
Republican Mark Foley is gone, albeit not quickly enough, because our side won't stand for that kind of behavior. The Democrats, on the other hand, have allowed a killer to remain as a leading senator for over 40 years.
The smartest thing Foley could have done was to immediately switch parties. The gay fascists would have defended him and called this drama a witch hunt. He could have probably even stayed in office if he drove a page off a bridge and kept his body and $90,000 bribe money in his freezer.
Just as we watched the drunken failed lifeguard killer lead the way on complaints of waterboarding, it would be so fitting for Barney Frank to lead an investigation of Foley's activities. Maybe Nancy Pelosi could lead an investigation of plastic surgeons who ruin their patients' faces.
In 1981 he was indicted for conspiracy to solicit and accept a bribe but acquitted by a jury. Nevertheless the Judicial Council of the Eleventh Circuit filed a complaint against him and recommended impeachment by the House.
In 1988, he was impeached on 17 counts including the alleged bribery, perjury and fabricated evidence in 1988; convicted by the Senate and subsequently removed from office.
On appeal to the federal courts, federal District Court Judge Stanley Sporkin remanded his impeachment back to the full Senate because Judge Hastings trial was conducted by a committee rather than before the full Senate. But on appeal, because the Supreme Court had previously ruled that the courts had no jurisdiction to review
Senate impeachment procedures, the Hastingss case was dismissed and his impeachment and removal affirmed. Judge Hastings was subsequently elected to the House, where he currently sits as the representative of Floridas 23rd District which includes parts of Broward, Palm Beach, Hendry,

No excuse for Foley.
If it can be proven that GOP leaders knew and covered up, there will be a heavy price to pay, and rightly so.
FR posting of article:
Foley and the Blame Game
It's beginning to look like DEMOCRAT leaders knew, and allowed other young men to be endangered by this Foley fellow for MONTHS - for political purposes.
What's the big deal with Kennedy? Bush got a SPEEDING TICKET once. They all do it
I know I am going to get flamed here, but two wrongs do not make a right. And the situation here is about a minor, to boot.
No you are right. This is the most ridiculous attempt at making the dems look bad I have witnessed. I know we can do better than this!
Well....I for one can't wait to read these fully truthful and factual articles from the NYT tomorrow. LOL
>if the full extent is no laws were broken, so be it.<
However, it's as clear as the bright red nose on Bill Clinton's face that ethical standards have been breached by Mr Foley (the pig).
Here again, this is the difference between the Republican party and the Democrats.
>Nothing excuses it, even if the minor starts the discussion, the adult should end it by walking away.<
After telling the little darling how low class said discussion makes him or her appear.

According to the detailed information presented in the above thread, the emails the leadership were made aware of originally were NOT overtly sexual. They were "overly friendly".
Brian Ross appears to be a journo with an agenda, as well.
Normally, I would work up some sense of outrage or disgust at Edward Kennedy's actions, as he is my #2 target for ridicule, behind only Robert Byrd. But the bottom line is that nothing this man does will get him out of the Senate. We can't get him out. He comes from a very liberal state, so he isn't going to get voted out.
The old saying goes, that you can get away with anything unless you are caught with either a dead girl or a live boy. In Massachusetts, depending on who you are, you can do either and get a free pass.
We simply have to wait Teddy out, until he decides to retire, or dies. The same is pretty much true with Byrd, although for a different reason, because Byrd's state isn't exactly liberal.
Minor depending on the locale. The age of consent in DC is 16. And while the IMs had sexual questions, I have not seen questions of Foley asking to have sex with the aide.
We already agree that 16 or 18, sex with an aide is wrong. And we used to agree as a nation that sexual harassment is wrong. But NOW stepped forward and said the first grope is free and it is unclear that there is harassment in this case even if there is creepiness.
Ted Kennedy is still in the Senate. His nephew is still in the House. Barney Franks is still hanging around too. Not only did the Dims know about these things and more, they keep them around and try to convince us it's nothing.
What are the ethical standards for a homosexual politician?
Hear! Hear!
Besides Foley himself, what's really pathetic about this politcally is that Democrats are so devoid of any plans or policies, they have to rely on this type of scandal to get themselves elected to office.
There is plenty of time for this scandal to blow over and another "huge" revelation to surface.
It's perfectly legitimate to point out the jaw-dropping hypocrisy of the Democratic Party 'leadership' as they clamor for an "investigation" of Foley, and why he wasn't ousted some time ago by the Republican leadership.
I simply canNOT believe those idiots want to even THINK about going down this path......
