Karzai Says bin Laden Not in Afghanistan

President Hamid Karzai has insisted that Osama bin Laden is not in his country, in the latest installment in a row with the leader of Pakistan who says the Al-Qaeda chief is in Afghanistan.

Other militant leaders including Islamist warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar were also not in the country, Karzai told reporters in a briefing about his visit to the United States that was overshadowed by the spat.

'I can assure you they are not in Afghanistan,' Karzai said yesterday after being asked for his reaction to comments by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf who said Thursday that bin Laden is here.

"Council Prayer Case Raises Broader Free Speech Concerns"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) - A case in which a local government official was barred from using the name of Jesus Christ during a prayer at a council meeting raises the issue of free speech rights not only of public officials but ultimately of anyone linked to the government in any way, a civil liberties legal group argues.

"The question in the case is whether or not a public official can in any capacity have that kind of private speech," John Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute, told Cybercast News Service.

"Our argument is if they can't, then there really isn't any kind of free speech for any kind of public official eventually. It's a dangerous doctrine to be arguing - eventually that can apply to anything."

Moreover, Whitehead said, the restrictions could ultimately even apply to people who aren't public officials at all."

Assyrian Christian Teen Reportedly Beheaded

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (ANS) -- An Assyrian Christian teenager has reportedly been decapitated while at work.

The Assyrian International News Agency (AINA) reported that according to the Assyrian website www.ankawa.com, a 14-year-old Christian Assyrian boy, Ayad Tariq, from Baqouba, Iraq was beheaded at his work place on Oct. 21.

Ayad Tariq was working his 12-hour shift, maintaining an electric generator, when a group of disguised Muslim insurgents walked in at the beginning of his shift shortly after 6 a.m. and asked him for his ID.

According to another employee who witnessed the events, and who hid when he saw insurgents approach, the insurgents questioned Ayad after seeing that his ID noted he was "Christian." The insurgents asked the boy if he was really a "Christian sinner."

Ayad reportedly replied, "Yes, I am Christian, but I am not a sinner." The insurgents immediately said, "dirty Christian sinner!"

Then they proceeded to each hold one of the boy’s limbs, "Allahu akbar! Allahu akbar!" while beheading him.

Internet terror expert Glen Jenvey (www.glen-jenvey.com) said in an e-mail interview that if Christians are routinely forced to carry identification cards stating their faith, then thousands of Iraqi Christians are living in fear because of their ID's. And that, Jenvey said, is "horrendous."

"Commuters burnt alive in surge of Sudan massacres"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A SERIES of massacres in the south of Sudan over the past two weeks has left at least 58 civilians dead, exposing the impotence of the region’s United Nations peacekeeping mandate.

Families have been attacked in their homes and commuters burnt alive in their vehicles, some close to the main UN base in the city of Juba. In one incident a bus packed with villagers, including women and children, was set alight. No one is sure who is behind the upsurge in violence. They could have been carried out by any one of countless proxy militias formed in the south of the country during 20 years of civil war. Although the war ended two years ago, many militias remain armed.

The mountains and forests make it difficult to track armed groups and the south is awash with guns.

In the village of Garbo, five people were shot in the latest attack on Thursday night. As the dead were laid to rest the following morning, screams from distraught mothers and children mingled with that of shovels. Nearby, a toddler sat stunned in a pool of bloodied water until a policeman came to lead her gently away."

ARTICLE SNIPPT: "THE Italian feminist politician Daniela Santanche has been given 24-hour police protection after her strident views on the Muslim veil drew an apparent death sentence from an imam.

On a television chat show, Santanche, 45, an MP for the right-wing National Alliance party, clashed with Ali Abu Shwaima, the imam of a mosque near Milan.

“The veil isn’t a religious symbol and it isn’t prescribed by the Koran,” she said. “And in our country there is a law which forbids – for reasons of terrorism – people going around with masks on.”

Shwaima, an Italian national, retorted: “The veil is an obligation required by God. Those who do not believe that are not Muslims.

“You’re an ignoramus, you’re false. You sow hatred, you’re an infidel.”

The interior ministry, interpreting Shwaima’s insults as the equivalent of a fatwa — a religious edict calling for her murder — swiftly gave Santanche an armed bodyguard."

Cindy, I'm reading Brigitte's book now, and it's compelling. Actually, every time I read it, I get angry - at the Lebanese government for their weakness, at the muslims for their treachery, and at the appeasers in our own country who are replaying the whole thing scene by scene.

On top of that, since I know Brigitte and my own ancestry is Lebanese, my heart breaks for what she and others like her went through. It hits very close to home for me in many ways.
