American-Korean Pastor Arrested as 35 Christians Held in Attack on Xinjiang Urumqi House Church Bible Training
By Michael Ireland
Special Correspondent, ASSIST News Service
MIDLAND, TEXAS / XIJIANG AUTONOMOUS REGION, CHINA (ANS) -- Local police raided Qilin Mountain Villa in the suburb of Uramqi City, Xijiang Autonomous Region, when some Christians were having a Bible training program held by a Korean pastor from America.
China Aid Association (CAA) says there were 35 Christians taken to the Yongfeng Township Police Station for interrogation, including the American-Korean pastor and his interpreter.
The names of some of the Christians arrested are: Sister Zhou Li, Xia Lingzhi, Bao Lin, Ren Baolan, Feng Yan, Hu Ying.
CAA reports that Sister Zhou Li and sister Xia Lingzhi were put under custody for 2 weeks last year and fined because of regular service attendance. They were also abused during the interrogation.
An e-mail report from CAA, obtained by ANS, states: "Sister Xia Lingzhi is 66 years old. She suffers from coronary heart disease and high blood pressure, thus should not be detained in any harsh environment. CAA appeals the local police to release the Christians as soon as possible, for their belief does absolutely no harm to both the society and the nation."

I did hear on FOX that A.Q. is threatening oil tankers and facilities in the Gulf (mid-east)......a credible threat.

Litigation re Northwest Airlines boarding pass generator
Snip: While Soghoian's hack drew widespread attention on the internet Thursday, the security hole it exposes has long been known. Boarding passes that are printable online can be edited simply by manipulating the html code, and Slate magazine, among others, publicized a method for those on government watch lists to avoid extra-screening or being banned from travel.
Hilali fires fans of fuorour with defiant declaration on White House
Snip: PROVOCATIVE Muslim cleric Sheikh Taj al-Din al-Hilali has inflamed the controversy around him, declaring that he would only resign when the world was "clean of the White House first".
Blue jean dye kills cancer cells
' Snip: The dye in your blue jeans could soon be used to kill cancer cells, say scientists.
UK researchers are employing tiny gold "nanoparticles", 1/5000th the thickness of a human hair, to deliver the chemical compound directly into cancer cells, tearing them apart instantly.
DHS worker penalized for reporting illegal aliens
Snip: OKLAHOMA CITY -- A state Department of Human Services worker says he was punished for trying to report illegal immigrants who were applying for state benefits.
Steve Thomas told the House Revenue and Taxation Committee he tried to follow a rule requiring memos be written to DHS superiors when they come across an applicant who's an illegal immigrant.
Thomas says he was taken before DHS' civil rights office and accused of threatening illegal immigrants. His testimony came at the request of Representative Randy Terrill who wants the committee to study illegal immigration in Oklahoma.

NYC fires online tutors from India
Snip: New York City school kids can get tutoring online. However the city's Education Department is upset that many of the tutors are in India - and they have not passed background checks, which allows them to work with children.
New York City Schools Investigator Richard Condon says the city contracted with Socratic Learning Incorporated of Plano, Texas to offer online tutoring for $2.4 million. The company's work with the city has since been suspended.
Snip: A father stands accused of the unthinkable: brutally cutting his daughter's genitals. The girl was only 2. Khalid Adem is accused of circumcising his 2-year-old daughter with scissors.
For the first time a Muslim has been arrested in the USA for perpetrating this brutal attack upon his own child. I am not prepared to say, from the report I cite in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that this father is necessarily the one who mutilated this poor child. The story reports that there was a messy divorce and that the father is claiming the mother did this crime.
Britain's Muslim clerics command secret militias
Snip: One police official, under condition of anonymity, said that law enforcement executives in Britain were overly cautious about their interaction with Muslim leaders and their mosques. He claims that several radical Islamic clerics possess their own private militias -- fully armed and operating in total secrecy.
Police came underfire when they swarmed one mosque with search warrants in hand. To their credit they uncovered a cache of weapons, forged identity documents and recipes for chemical weapons such as the highly dangerous Ricin; all of it hidden in the mosque.
Muslim extremist wants flag of Islam over Ireland
Snip: The British-born lawyer, 39, angered the Irish Government last year when he said that Ireland risked becoming a target for a 9/11 style attack because it allowed US war planes to refuel at Shannon Airport.
Mr Choudray said: As a Muslim, I believe Islam is superior to every other way of life and that it can resolve all the social and economic problems that Ireland suffers from. And as a symbol of that, the flag of Islam should be flown over the Dáil.

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520
This information is current as of today, Sat Oct 28 2006 07:47:51 GMT-0700.
CHAD
October 27, 2006
This Travel Warning reminds American citizens of ongoing rebel activity in Chad, and provides updated information on security incidents. This supersedes the Travel Warning of September 6, 2006.
The Department of State continues to urge American citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Chad, due to continued threats of rebel activity on Chads borders with Sudan and the Central African Republic (CAR). Americans should exercise caution when traveling in Chad, including within the capital, NDjamena. Americans not affiliated with humanitarian relief efforts should avoid travel to eastern Chad and the Chad/CAR border.
U.S. citizens should avoid crowds, political rallies, street demonstrations, and government installations, including the Presidential Palace, which is across from the Parade Grounds. Vehicles should never stop in front of the Presidential Palace. When traveling anywhere in Chad, American citizens should travel in groups, keep a cell phone (for when service is available) or two-way radio in reach at all times, avoid travel after dusk, and leave detailed travel plans with a reliable point of contact. Americans traveling with Thurarya satellite phones should register the phones with Chadian authorities.
Reports indicate an increase in the number of couper de routes, or highway banditry incidents, across the country. Some American citizens have reported harassment at Chadian government roadway checkpoints. Americans are urged to carry all necessary travel documents, including valid passports and visas, and any specific documents required for travel within the country. Americans who encounter problems at these checkpoints should contact the U.S. Embassy (See below for contact details).
In April 2006, rebels advanced across Chad and reached NDjamena where they were defeated by government forces in a battle in and around the capital. There is a potential for further clashes between rebel movements and government forces in eastern and south-eastern Chad and possibly closer to NDjamena. In the east, there are also numerous reports of cross-border banditry and cattle rustling. United Nations (UN) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) vehicles have been targeted for carjacking in eastern Chad. At least one foreigner has been critically injured as a result of a carjacking, and another expatriate was seriously wounded during an armed robbery at an NGO compound. U.S. citizens affiliated with humanitarian relief efforts in eastern Chad are strongly urged to coordinate travel plans with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) security offices in Abeche and NDjamena, and to follow UNHCR guidance regarding safety and security. The government of Chad requires all individuals traveling to or residing in refugee-affected areas in eastern Chad to obtain permits issued by the Ministry of Territorial Administration in NDjamena, and to register in Abeche upon arrival in eastern Chad.
For American citizens who intend to enter Sudan from Chad despite the Departments Travel Warnings for both countries, it is essential to obtain the appropriate visas and permits in advance of entry into Sudan. In August 2006, five foreigners, including two Americans, were arrested and detained in Darfur after entering Sudan via the Chadian border town of Bahai without the appropriate documentation. Several of these individuals had solicited and obtained escorts in Chad who allegedly promised to facilitate entry into Sudan, but who were ultimately unable to follow through with their commitments. Further information is available in the Departments Travel Warning for Sudan.
The influx of 12,000 Central African Republic (CAR) refugees into southern Chad, which is already home to over 40,000 refugees, following fighting between northern Central African rebels and CAR forces in July 2005, has also created a volatile situation along the Chad-CAR border. In addition, in the northern Tibesti region and the area north of Lake Chad, there have been occasional clashes between government forces and a rebel group known as the Chadian Movement for Justice and Democracy (MDJT).
The U.S. Embassy in NDjamena may close temporarily for general business from time to time to review its security posture. For the status of services, consult the Embassy web site at http://usembassy.state.gov/ndjamena.
American citizens visiting or resident in Chad are strongly encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy on line at https:// travelregistration.state.gov/and to provide contact information and specific travel data if traveling outside the capital. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy in NDjamena. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency and provide updates on the security situation as necessary. The U.S. Embassy is located in NDjamena on Avenue Felix Ebou; mailing address B.P. 413; telephone (including after hours): (235) 51-62-11, 51-70-09, 51-77-59, 51-90-52, 51-92-18, and 51-92-33; fax (235) 51-56-54; web site http://usembassy.state.gov/ndjamena.
For additional information, consult the Department of State's latest Consular Information Sheet for Chad and the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement at http://travel.state.gov/. American citizens may also obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada, or 1-202-501-4444 from overseas.

Egyptian police seize one tonne of high explosives
Inner Spiritual Strugglers thwarted in central Sinai. From Reuters:
ISMAILIA, (Reuters) - Egyptian police have recovered nearly one tonne of high explosives hidden in a mountainous area of central Sinai, security sources said on Friday.
The explosives were buried in 13 plastic bags and were discovered by bedouin trackers working for the government, according to the sources, who did not specify the type of explosive.
The area where the discovery was made has been the site of previous shootouts between police and suspects wanted for bombings in Sinai over the past two years.
More than 100 people were killed in bomb attacks in tourist resorts throughout Sinai since October 2004. Egypt has blamed the attacks on an Islamist militant group called al-Tawhid wal Jihad (One God and Jihad).

Oct 28th - 5:30am
By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN Associated Press Writer
ARTICLE SNIPPE: "TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Cheryll Witz wrote convicted Washington-area sniper Lee Boyd Malvo a letter in June, imploring him to talk to Arizona detectives about her father's 2002 death. She got her wish. Police said Friday that Malvo tearfully confessed that he and John Allen Muhammad were responsible for killing 60-year-old Jerry Taylor on a golf course in Tucson."

3 Australians, Dane held in Yemen over arms smuggling to aid Somali jihad
All four were studying at al-Iman University in Sanaa, Yemen, a university once suspended by the Supreme Yemeni Council for Universities for overlooking students' academic qualifications (or lack thereof) as long as they could recite 5 excerpts from the Qur'an (no word on which ones).
The Danish suspect is said to be a convert to Islam -- another convert, another alleged "misunderstander" of his new religion. "3 Australians, Dane Held in Yemen Over Arms Smuggling," from AP:
SANAA, 28 October 2006 -- Three Australians and a Dane have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle weapons to Somalia, a security official said late Thursday.
All four have been studying at the Islamist Iman University, which is run by Sheik Abdul-Majid Al-Zindani. The United States lists Al-Zindani as an Al-Qaeda supporter.
[...]
However, a Danish Foreign Ministry official confirmed the arrest of the Dane but refused to identify him. "All I can say is that a Danish national has been arrested according to our information," said Uffe Wolffheckel of the Foreign Ministrys Consular Service.
Danish media said the suspect is a 23-year-old male who converted to Islam and moved to Yemen two months ago with his wife and child.
[...]
Yemen is believed to be a frequent route for smuggling arms to Somali factions.

"Woman burned in France bus attack"
BBC News on line ^ | October 29, 2006 | Unsigned
Posted on 10/28/2006 7:48:01 PM PDT by aculeus
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A woman has been seriously burned and three others are suffering from smoke inhalation after youths set fire to a bus in the French city of Marseille. A group of teenagers reportedly forced open the doors of the vehicle and threw flammable liquid inside before fleeing.
There have been several attacks on buses over the past week, coinciding with the one year anniversary of riots in poor suburbs across the country.
The riots were sparked by the deaths of two teenagers in the capital, Paris.
Minor skirmishes were reported in Paris on Saturday. An additional 4,000 officers had been deployed - six were injured and 47 people were arrested, according to the interior ministry.
At least six buses have been set on fire in suburbs around the capital this week in an upsurge of violence ahead of the anniversary of the riots."
