Either way, I agree with Tammy Bruce, we should seal off our northern border, we have been to complacent, and our neighbors have been 'do-nothings', for far too long !
At the very least this incident, as well as many others, in trends going back to the Cold War, prove that Canada is unreliable on issues of Border Safety and Security .
Canadians think 'The World is Their Oyster' .
These Liberals only real concern is 'acid rain' or some other politically-correct non-threat .
B.C. border guards?
Figured they'd be french Canadian guards that fled.
Not those with us in the WOT in Afghanistan. A border guard help stop the millenium bombers, so they'ver partnered with us before in HS. Also, thought the new PM was friendly to the US.
"...in the event there was a security threat..."
In the event? Aren't they armed? WTF?
What, again? Didn't this same thing happen a few months ago? Or is this the same story?
Didn't Canada pass a law saying their guards can be armed? I can't remember but I know there was a discussion about it earlier this year.
Don't blame the guards, blame the policy.
Run away!!!
Guards walk off job at four B.C. border crossings
which is it? did they flee or walk off the job? Are union workers who walk off the job called "fleeing" as well by the media?
Canada has forbidden the death penalty, and there is, or was, a treaty with Canada establishing that they did not have to return anyone to the U.S. that was going to be executed .
I do not know if that old old treaty is still in effect .
Canadian border guards are not armed because of government policy. IF you were in their situation, would you want to confront an armed crazy? It's the Canadian gun phobia, not cowardly guards.
security scare - I doubt it. Probably another exciting thrilling curling exhibition...eh?
Maybe the guards are really their "canaries." If they flee, we should all flee.
do they have guns??? i think not
Canada ping.
Please send me a FReepmail to get on or off this Canada ping list.
Canada has never armed the Customs & Immigration officials stationed on the U.S. border.
It's always been an UNDEFENDED border.
Judging by the comments of some on this thread, you'd think we should be setting tank-traps by the Peace Arch.
In any event, these government employees will be armed soon enough. I, for one, do not see this as a security improvement - just posturing, imho.
Anything "Mamby Pamby" goes over big in Canada. To prove it, I'll bet the "fleers" still have their jobs.
I don't understand your post - it's what they did do that has me worried.
Running away from doing what you were hired to accomplish seems quite sufficient to damn them in my book.
Brothers of the New Orleans cops who fled Katrina?
