Canadian Border guards flee their posts

Canadian Border "Guards" Flee Posts After Security Scare That's weird because I thought guards were there specifically in the event there was a security threat. Silly me.

Guards walk off job at four B.C. border crossings

Canadian border guards at four crossings in the Lower Mainland of B.C. have walked off the job in response to a security scare.

CTV Vancouver reported Sunday night that lineups at four crossings into Canada are massive. Gary Barndt reported from the station's helicopter that the lineups appeared to be several kilometres long at one crossing...This was the first time she could recall all four crossings been affected this way.

The situation started in the afternoon when U.S. Homeland Security officials told the RCMP that a suspected killer from California, who should be considered armed and dangerous, might try to cross the Canadian border.

They thought he was heading northward towards Anacortes, Wa.on a motorcycle -- located about 60 kilometres due south of the border, but sharing a ferry route with Sidney, B.C. -- where a motorcycle rally was taking place. Many Canadians attended the Oyster Run, as it's called.

The RCMP informed the border guards, who walked off first at Huntington at 2:15 p.m. , then the other three crossings. About 60 guards are believed to be off the job.

I'm impressed. Perhaps it's time for a wall up north, too

>>ARE CANADIANS COWARDS ?
Not those with us in the WOT in Afghanistan. A border guard help stop the millenium bombers, so they'ver partnered with us before in HS. Also, thought the new PM was friendly to the US.

<<

OBVIOUSLY THOSE CANADIANS ARE NOT ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

>>Anyone from any Third World Country can get a tourist visa to enter Canada - - then scurry on down to ours . . .

Nonsense. Canada doesn't allow most people (even Americans) with criminal convictions to enter their country, and requires invitation letters for people from some countries. And just like the United States, Canada has an Advance Passenger Information program for incoming flights so that they can screen out prospective terrorists when they arrive on Canadian soil. That's far from free entry to Canada to all comers from the Third World.<<

That works well on paper, but the reality is something else .

Documents can be forged !

Phoney papers can easily be acquired by resourcful individuals and groups in these Third World Countries whose goverments are as corrupt as Caligula's Rome .

An example would be Thailand and Indonesia . .

Careful background checks of these 'swarthy skinned' visitors is a must ! !

Yes yes, we Americans are to controlled by PC as well to engage in very much 'racial profiling' . .

Both countires are guilty here . . .

Yes, correct !

These deviants committ these horrible crimes because it gives them a thrill - - like adrenaline junkies .

There is no justification, simply rationalizations .

I haven't been insulated from anything. I am an American, not a Canadian.

Arming Canadian border guards has absolutely nothing to do with U.S. border safety or the U.S.' war on terror. Canada isn't the former East Germany. Canadians would not shoot people trying to leave their country, even if they had guns. Canadian border guards simply aren't responsible for people entering the U.S. Customs doesn't work that way. It is up to American officials to screen those entering the U.S.

Canadian authorities DO share information with us about terrorism. There were more than a few terrorists arrested in the United States as a result of the very good work of the CSIS in Toronto recently. They are good allies and friends, especially now that a new sheriff is in town in Ottawa. I can't consistently say the same thing about our southern neighbors (although President Fox and President Elect Calderon are far better than any alternative).

In any event, most Canadian conservatives would agree that it is a travesty that Canadian border agents aren't armed - at a minimum, for their own protection because the Mounties can't be everywhere all the time. The current Conservative government is changing that - albeit perhaps too slowly.

Oh come ON Costanzo." I'll have the moderator remove you?

The fact is that you have very little knowledge about Canada , and we are pointing that out. That is not an insult, its a gift.

Canada has just come through 40 years of liberal socialist engineering of its society. Canada has a substantial conservative populace, and it does not willfully provide haven and bases for the generation of terrorists. As a matter of fact, Canada has interdicted its share of them.

What Canadians object to, is the over simplistic platitudes that unknowing Americans make about their nation.

So become educated. And realize that unless we conservatives act here in the USA, then the Dems will make what was suffered by Canada, under two generations of liberal socialist domination, look like a cake walk.

There is a whole social movement in the USA dedicated to the mass influx of illegal aliens, to the tune of 23 million now in country. Illegals from Canada pose no similar threat, nor will they ever, thanks to the conservative backed police agencies of Canada.Unfortunately the Canadian border guards are just custodians in uniform, and we are trying to do something about it, and will have an easier time doing it than you will in securing your southern border.

If its not done right on the Candian border, imagine a janitor or baggage checker who is pissed off wielding a submachine gun and waving it in your face as you enter Canada. Not a pleasant thought. Thats why they don't have guns.....yet. But they will, and they will be well trained in their use. It will just take a little time.

Castigate the Mexican border patrol, you will be more on the money.

As opposed to the anti-American words scratched into the hood of our car in Vancouver the LAST TIME we will ever go the Canada.

"they just let him pass thru (sic) . . ." I've crossed the border at that checkpoint many times. You talk about it as if people have to go through both a Canadian checkpoint and and American one. That isn't how it works. Going into Canada, you're checked by Canadian authorities. Going out and back into the U.S., you're checked by American ones. It isn't fair to suggest the Canadians "just let him pass thru (sic)".

I am sorry that happend Chief, and I also, a Canadian living in Vermont, have experioenced the same chill when visiting my own parents in Canada while driving with Vermont plates.

But if one is mugged in Washington,DC, ( a highly probable event) , that does not mean that all Americans are inhospitable criminals.

My Canadian family has always had an abiding friendship with Americans. My Canadian Ancestor, a man by the last name of Coy, attacked the British fort at Beausejour on the Revolutionary side in 1777, and we have been close to Americans ever since. The majority of Canadians feel the same way. But like any people , Candians expect respect, and are very sorry generally, as well as sensitive about the backward discivilization that the Liberals of Canada have brought about over the last 40 years. Not everything can be fixed at once, even if we wished it be so.

And dozens of our soldiers have died in Afghanistan, and we will stay the course. That does not mean that we do not have liberal weenies running around scratching cars. If I had caught them doing your car, I would have placed a boot heel strategically and then called the police.I am sorry it happened to such a fine man as you.

As far as I know, this is the second incident over the past year or so where Canadian Border Guards have walked off the job under these circumstances and it's no coincidence that both cases involved Guards in the same geographic location who are members of the same (PSAC) union local.

Plus, it's not as if these are busy crossing points in terms of overall volumes of traffic compared to numerous ones connecting our nations' industrial heartlands.

Accordingly, it's hardly unreasonable to see the incident(s) as orchestrated by the PSAC local involved in an attempt to serve its own selfish political agenda and altogether quite unrepresentative of the current state of affairs along America's Northern frontier.

The ill-informed sweeping & disparaging comments in post #1 are quite simply ridiculous:

Ng commited a serious crime here in Calgary and wounded a security guard. He was tried convicted and served his time, after which he was deported. Some lefty lawyer tried to stop his deportation to no avail on the grounds that Canada should not extradite a criminal to another country with the death penalty...he failed now STFU AND STOP SPREADING BULLSHIT.

Latest border violence is 40-minute gunbattle
By Ioan Grillo
The Associated Press

MEXICO CITY - More than 50 federal agents battled alleged drug traffickers in a shootout in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, officials said Saturday, the latest incident a wave of violence that has sparked criticism from the U.S. government.

Several people were killed in the gunbattle late Friday, according to a spokeswoman with the federal attorney general's office. She could not confirm the number and requested anonymity because the agency was waiting to issue a formal statement.

Officers with the Federal Preventative Police were involved in the shootout, which lasted 40 minutes, according to an official with the agency who also requested anonymity.

On Saturday morning, federal agents in ski masks and body armor and six military Humvees packed with soldiers sealed off the scene of the shootout and refused to let journalists enter.

The soldiers refused to comment or confirm whether they had been involved in the shooting.

Residents said they had heard constant gunfire and said some shots sounded like they could have come from military-caliber weapons. Several houses on the edge of the scene were riddled with bullet holes.

Nuevo Laredo, across the Rio Grande from Laredo, has been beset with execution-style killings and shootouts as two drug cartels battle for billion-dollar smuggling routes into the U.S.

The bloodshed is part of a wave of drug violence across Mexico this year that has killed more than 1,500 people and included beheadings and the assassination of several police chiefs.

On Friday alone, there were 14 drug-related killings in the states of Baja California, Guerrero, Michoacan and Sinaloa as well as the shootout in Nuevo Laredo, Mexican news media reported.

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza has urged Mexican authorities to try to bring order to the border area, and Mexican and U.S. officials met Thursday.

But this guy bought his materials and made his plan in Canada .

This man should not have been in your country to begin with .

•In the United States, nearly 200 suspected terrorist associates have been charged with crimes since Sept. 11, 2001.

• Alleged terrorist cells have been disrupted in Buffalo, N.Y., Detroit, and Portland, Ore., and led to the arrest of 18 suspected terrorists.

• The FBI has worked with immigration officials to deport nearly 500 violators of US law.

Also, thought the new PM was friendly to the US. Very. Do not doubt that for one minute.

Yes, he is.

But let's keep it quiet up here, as much as possible--I want him to be re-elected. ;)

So I guess we can say that U.S. women border guards are more manly than Canadian border guards. :)

Oh please. As the American wife of a Canadian man, I can say that Canadian men--even those who aren't border guards or cops--are quite manly. :)

Enough with the Canada bashing, people! As fanfan pointed out, border guards don't check people leaving the country. Those who don't understand that might try getting out a bit more.

Jeesh.
