Today in history, on 1 October 1936, the leader of the Nationalist forces of Spain, Gen. Francisco Franco, was proclaimed Generalissimo of the National Army and Head of State. Although it is not currently fashionable to say so, Franco was a hero in the global struggle against communism. As always, history (and God) will be the only just Judge.

In a political world of "black and white", the shades of grey that, due to circumstances, had to embrace certain evils to do battle with worse ones will never receive a fair hearing.
I am sure that Franco will be historically "redeemed" someday.

In April of 1947, Eva Peron accepted an invitation from Franco to go to Spain and receive the Cross of Isabel the Catholic, the highest decoration bestowed by Spain. In Spain she received an exuberant welcome. However, when Franco tried to pretend that his starving country didn't need Argentina's offer of a huge shipment of wheat, he got a first-hand taste of just how frank the first lady of Argentina could be when annoyed. When Franco attempted to dissemble and ask "what would we do with it", Evita snapped sharply back with the reply "...why not try putting it in the bread.!".
From the "Rainbow Tour" of Spain.

One of the most impressive monuments to fallen soldiers anywhere. The largest cross in the world, and in the mountainside itself was built a basilica larger than St. Peters.

Generalissimo Francisco Franco, who is still dead after 31 years.
Franco was a hero of the Cold War and was valuable in World War II also. He saved the lives of tens of thousands of Jews by calling Hitler and saying that if he didn't want them, there was plenty of work in Spain. Hitler figured he could just get them when he took Spain, so he sent them down to do the work Franco had told him he had.
Also, Franco used to "play with" Hitler, by "intercepting" U.S.-British communications, then passing tehm on to Berlin mistranslated. For example, when the Allied leaders were going to meet in Casablanca, Morocco, instead of Casablanca, a city well within the range of Hitler's bombers, Franco told him the meeting was at "Casa Blanca" -- the White House, which was not in Hitler's bombing range.
A good ally, which is why the liberal media so despised him.
