Schwarzenegger Surging Ahead as Vote Nears
LAT ^ | Oct. 1, 2006 | Michael Finnegan,

The governor takes a commanding lead, with many Democrats and independents saying they support him. A key issue is leadership skill.

Just over five weeks before election day, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger holds a commanding lead over his Democratic challenger, state Treasurer Phil Angelides, who has built scant support beyond a core base of liberals, according to a new Los Angeles Times Poll.

If the Nov. 7 election were held today, likely voters would favor the Republican governor over Angelides 50% to 33%.

The survey found an abundance of grim signs for Angelides, including a failure to match Schwarzenegger's success in rallying voters of his own party strongly behind his candidacy. Just 61% of Democrats support Angelides, while 88% of Republicans favor Schwarzenegger. And independents, a crucial swing vote, support Schwarzenegger over Angelides 49% to 31%.

Yes, I can see that you would be so much happier with Angelides as governor

Can't speak for Dan but I'd be a whole lot happier if Angelides were the city treasurer for Havana and a repatriated Schwarzenegger, the not-so-popular mayor of Graz.

have you considered moving to Cuba?

Arnold is the one who would be happier in Cuba. His policies are already firmly in place, and people don't dare speak out against their glorious leader.

This is the real world of Calif., pal. Look at the demographics of this state. Look at the two yentas we have as our senators. A rock-ribbed conservative is not going to get elected governor of this state in today's climate.

Therefore, we need Arnold (admittedly a RINO or, at best, a moderate Republican) to keep the tide of socialism/collectivism/radical homosexuality, from overflowing the bank.

Stay at home, don't vote for Arnold and you may have an out-and-out socialist as your governor and Sheila Kuehl setting policy for the state.

If Arnold were a real moderate, conservatives would hold their nose to vote for him. Alas, the substance of his policies keeps us from backing him as we would like to do.

Let's take this from the top.

The choice is between Arnold and Angelides.

When confronted directly, you claim that you aren't supporting Angelides, but virtually ALL of your posts are attacks against Arnold, directed at him with the purpose of defeating him, resulting in Angelides getting elected.

When it walks like a duck, posts like a duck, it's a DUCK, or rather a DICC (Democrat In Conservative's Clothing), regardless of its claims.

In the case of EGD this is especially egregious, because you claim you are taking a salary from Republicans to help campaign for them, and you are taking the money, while you are working for their defeat.

Yes, he or she can. You people just gotta get your head out of the sand and stop promoting RINOs and believing in self-fulfilling prophecies. How come there have been more Republican Governors than Democrats in CA? Answer that smarty pants...

I guess it's just a matter of holding my nose and voting for the lesser of two liberals.

Angelides is a joke. Watch the dems try to slime Arnold with something in the days before the election, just like they did last time.

Now when will the CAGOP begin supporting downticket candidates?

When Hell freezes over. The CAGOP and CADNC have an iron clad agreement: All seats are safe, even though they give the Dims an advantage.

The only thing in play is Guv, Lt. Guv and the Propositions.

I am not taking a salary from Republicans. It's been nearly four years since I have been on a campaign payroll.

And for the record I have never told anyone to vote a) for Angelides or b) against Arnold.

Just presenting the facts. People can make their own decisions.

Those "Arnold supported George Bush" ads are so funny, I had to check that it wasn't an SNL skit.

Come down to reality and look at the CA Demographics:

CALIFORNIA VOTER AND PARTY PROFILES

http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/JTF_VoterProfilesJTF.pdf

"The Democratic Party currently has an advantage of 1.4 million voters over the Republican Party (7.1 million to 5.7 million) or 9 percentage points (43% to 34%), according to the Secretary of State.

Among those most likely to vote in this year’s elections, Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 7-point margin (44% to 37%), while 15 percent of likely voters are registered as independents.

... the fact that independents are more likely to lean toward Democrats than Republicans (42% to 28%) tends to work to the disadvantage of the GOP in statewide elections."

But you don't acknowledge Arnold is a DIRC (Democrat In Republican Clothing). Regardless of everything else you say on here he's that and a tiger can't change its stripes and a liberal will remain a liberal no matter how he camouflages his real views.

I'm out here in Alabama and I know that Arnold vetoed UHC and gay rights bills this year.

Obviously. More homework.

The Autrian signed AB 1400 last September and AB 2911 yesterday.

Liberals dominate the populous coastal counties of California - San Francisco and Los Angeles - and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. The political math guarantees conservatives will remain in a minority in this state for awhile yet.

Well, I am glad to hear that my campaign donations to the Republicans aren't paying your salary, for you to use it to undermine the Republicans.

But your posts stand alone, they are promoting Arnold's defeat, and Angelides' victory.

You must have a very dim view of the intelligence of conservatives to assume that the vast majority can't see through your very transparent agenda of promiting victory for the Dems, under the guise of conservatism.

You are one of those this article describes -- the pretend conservatives trying to promote Dems:

We are told to hold our nose and vote for the lesser of two liberals because if we don't vote for the less offensive one, California will be lost. The truth is its been lost for a number of years now.

In your world real liberals are not promoting DIRCs for statewide office in California.
