Questioning my religious beliefs in such a taunting manner is crossing the line.

For the record, I am a conservative and I am a Christian. Anyone who knows me here knows that.

Saying "wait and see", ESPECIALLY ABOUT WHAT OTHER REPUBLICANS KNEW ABOUT THE SITUATION, is not sticking up for perverts.

Do you know what I think should be done to people who are guilty of child molestation? I think they should be castrated and imprisoned for life. I'm also open to the idea of the death penealty for such offenses. But that doesn't mean I jump to conclusions concerning what others know about any given child predator.

I think that people who do this kind of stuff really don't think that THEY will be the ones that get caught. Plus if it's true (which we don't know) that others covered-up for him, he probably thought he was safe. The other possibility is that if that if he did it, he's the kind of sicko who just couldn't resist the temptation that easy IM and email access to boys presented. Gambling addicts say the same thing ... easy access to online gambling is the worst tempation in the world for them. Maybe he just couldn't help but risk it all and pursue his horrible addiction.

I'm pretty sure that was a different scandal. I think Rush was referring to the allegations that the guys who bribed Duke Cunningham were also providing whores for some of the congress critters. That purported 'scandal' seems to have gone nowhere though.

Thanks for refreshing my memory.

we probably will lose the House.

If they sheltered this guy....they should.

There are some things you can look the other way on....but not this.

Unfortunately, I agree with that.

According to Nightline, they've know for quite a while; they had a guy on who use to be a page and he said that when they first came in to training, they were WARNED about Foley.

This is going to be ugly.

Of course, when it's a predatory Democrat the press likes the story is reported differently.

Clinton's history of attacking women was well known to his inner circle, but Panetta and the press says it was 'appearances' that made Panetta make sure Clinton wasn't alone with women.

The Washington Post spun it this way for Clinton and Panetta during impeachment:

The issue of Clinton and women worried Panetta when he was in the White House as well, he acknowledges. Although Lewinsky worked in his office as an intern, Panetta told Starr's grand jury he did not know her and had no knowledge of Clinton having an improper relationship with her or anyone else. But the problem of appearances, he has said in recent interviews, was always a consideration.

Schedules were scoured to ensure that Clinton was never in a situation that might be misinterpreted -- visiting someone's home or having a female overnight guest in the White House when Hillary Rodham Clinton was out of town, for example, or traveling in a limousine alone with a woman.

"If somebody said they wanted to ride with the president, you would either make sure you would say no or make sure someone else was there," Panetta said. Clinton, he added, understood that his advisers were looking out for him. "He was very cooperative with that. He welcomed that."

Well, you know better than anybody that those "rules" don't apply to us.

And you have to know that conservatives aren't going to play that game.

If they knew and left him there, they ALL need to go.

Let's see here:

I'm defending the concept of innocent until proven guilty. I'm also defending the idea that we should not assume other Republicans actually knew about his activities until there is actual proof of that besides a page's story on a Nightline show. Neither of those positions are irrational, illogical, unreasonable, or immoral.

Think what you want about me, but know that I believe this: Child predators are evil, evil creatures and the death penalty is an entirely appropriate punishment for those who harm children in a sexual manner. I hate them just as much as everyone else here does.

And with that, I'm finished with this thread.

I think Atwater is being groomed to run for Clay Shaw's seat in 2008. I doubt he'd want to risk a loss in a tainted election. It would cripple his political career.

And for the record, IF any Republican knew that teenagers were being harmed in such a manner and they did nothing, then yes, they need to be kicked out on their fannies too.

The set of federal laws dealing with the sexual exploitation and other abuse of children do apply to those under the age of 18, but generally require visual depictions child sex acts. A text chat probably wouldn't be a visual depiction.

This might be a case of there ought to be a law, but there isn't anything directly on point that I've found so far.

I cannot believe you're still here, hours later, still saying this crap.

The guy IS a predator; live with it.

Why you are taking this wait and see attitude is beyond me and, frankly, beyond belief.

He resigned AFTER ABC told him they have MORE instant messages. That's a clue for your a$$.

Excuse me, you are the one who needs to get a clue.

As for "crap", you're the one now assuming that we have some huge Republican conspiracy based on a Nightline report.

I think that the way this is going to break wide open (because the Democrats are already demanding an investigation into how long they knew and what they did) we probably will lose the House.

And they KNEW it. They knew this could happen and they screwed the whole country by letting it slide and protecting their own.

All the while they ask for our support, they ask for our money and they ask for our votes. I'm more disgusted than I can even express.

Pingy poo to the post to which this "responds." Who knew? LOL.

Your "problem" is that "you people" (a little Peroism for the cogniscenti for their amusement) breed like rabbits, or did (and thus have a seemingly near zillion near clones), until you stopped. The bad news, is that your tribe now votes like mine in New England. The shame is seemingly near eternal.
