I am not thrilled about having a gay republican governor. We don't seem to have a good track record with gay republicans. However, I will take a gay republican over a straight democrat any day.

"The man committed political suicide ... now, I'd be concerned with Real Suicide."

I was thinking the same thing. Has anybody actually produced these perverted IM's yet though? I have not seen them on the internet anywhere, just an allegation that they exist.

Enough hand-wringing.

For those who are concerned about losing the House to Nancy Pelosi and Charles Rangel, your task now is to

1) understand and accept that the fact that keeping this strong Republican seat is now in jeapordy

2) If you are a Floridian in Foley's district, you must go out or your way to get fellow Republicans out to vote on election day, as this event will serve as a discouragement from doing so

3) If you are a resident of one of the 40 or so districts that are too close to call, get out of this thread and go do something to support your Republican candidate

Well, don't just sit there...MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!

Factor in stupid too. It's bad no matter who ends up being governor.

LIke I wrote before, imo, it depends on who the replacement is. A strong name might be able to overpower Foley's stench.

Believe me, I am the mother of two young kids. I would not want to cast a vote for a pervert. However, I would do it if I knew the vote was going to a good Republican candidate. My kids safety from the bad guys of the world trump having to vote for the name of Foley.

"Groan", but thanks for the info.

Well, Jeb could call a special election to fill the vacancy, have an "independent republican party" primary...

(just kidding, we're doomed)

If you're indicating that Mark Foley's name will stay on the ballot then I don't see how that rescues the GOP. That strikes me more like disaster for the GOP.

Well, based on what I know, the best candidate from a political point of view would be Palm Beach County Commissioner Mary McCarty, who is currently running unopposed for her current post.

I think the one step removed, will be one step too many for voters. Even if they "know" that a vote for Foley, will be a vote for somebody else, I don't think some voters will actually check the box of an internet trolling homosexual out after 16 year old boys.

Intellectually, they know the difference, but they still have to check Foley's name. The district is lost.

The Democrat Mahoney is very well-funded and this would've been a highly competitive race even versus a scandal-less Foley if Foley hadn't been super well-funded. I think it's a very tough hold, but a lot depends on whether Foley's name gets replaced and who it is that replaces him. I do not think a "generic Republican" can hold this seat this year in much the same way that Thelma Drake held VA-02 in 2004.

Some people never learn.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT A GAY INFILTRATOR attacking your party from within????

Foley was the House Chair for the committee on Missing and Exploited Children. He should kill himself about now. I am not a gay basher, but I am a pedophile basher big time. A man with his responsibilities, and his position in congress.

I would rather let Duke Cunningham and Bob Ney go, if this man could rot in their cells. A disgrace. ABC showed him IM chats where he asked 16 year old boys if he made them horny. What a disgrace.

Well, I kind of doubt it. Would you have any problem voting "for" Foley? The issue is whether or not there is some popular state senator or supervisor or mayor around.
