"We are a representative republic..."Ahem............ahem.............precisely. Now, go look up the meaning of the word "representative", and thank you for supporting my point in your intended rebuttal.

I say nothing about AOL.
Sorry didnt mean to offend you...AOL had been a pain in the rear for me and many that I know but they do keep good records when needed

It seems that House and Senate rules are different. Wellstone and Torricelli were Senators. DeLay and Foley are Representatives.
Senators were appointed by State legislatures until the 17th amendment passed in 1913. The power of the Governor to appoint Senators is still left over from pre-17th amendment days, but House vacancies go to a special election.

It is true though that Congress keeps pictures of all interns past and present on file. They use them for recommendations. I had my picture taken when I interned for my local Congresswoman.

I think you're thinking of Gerry Studds (D-Mass.) who had a 1973 "relationship" with a then 17-year-old male congressional page.
To: Howlin
could he face criminal charges?

Read more like a gay predator stalking some fresh meat.Is there any hint of this type of behavior from him in his past? Any inkling? I don't think people just wake up one fine sunny morning and decide, 'hey, I think I like young boys'.
Maybe that's why he dropped out. Someone digging deeper might come up with something.

LOL.....wasn't offended, just thought you might have me confused with another poster who said something about AOL.
I applaud their cooperation with law enforcement.
And I am upset at all the lamenting about the congressional seat when our kids are at risk from people like Foley.

Congressional members are supposed to reflect their districts; their beliefs. Less than one percent of this country is gay.........
Do you have no idea what an election is? The concept is to put up two candidates and the people vote. They were voted in because the districts felt they would express their interests in ISSUES. I don't necessarily like it either, but we don't have much say in who folks vote in that are not in our districts or states. I am surprised that you don't know that.

There is no comparison with McGreevey.
McGreevey stepped down because he was near to being indicted for bribery and influence-peddling.
He cleverly made the correct decision that resgning and giving his personal life as a reason would generate sympathy and lead to a possible return to politics in the future.
Being forced out of office for taking bribes would have ended his career permanently.

Sounds as if Rep. Foley might have a few skeltons in his closet he doesn't want to let out. Also makes you wonder if the rumors are true about him being gay/bisexual. Uh... ya think?

Kolbe is an ANNOUNCED "Gay". I was responding to a comment that said the two Repub "Gays" we know of are..."Leach and now Foley". Replying that I know nothing of that about Jim Leach, but perhaps they meant Jim Kolbe. Wasn't going to mention others who haven't made an open admission of it.

Also, the email was from Foley's personal AOL account, not his Congressional email. Are you suggesting a possible set-up?

It's more like: Republicans step down when caught, Democrats "Deny, deny, deny" then obstruct. Our perverts have more integrity.
