Murtha's GOP foe snubbed By Robert Novak
Sunday, September 24, 2006
WASHINGTON
The long-shot Republican chance to defeat anti-war Democrat Rep. John Murtha got longer still when Pennsylvania Republican State Chairman Rob Gleason canceled a Monday fundraiser for Murtha's GOP opponent, Washington County Commissioner Diane Irey.
Irey's staffers accused Gleason of being too close to Murtha, a fellow resident of Johnstown. They claimed the Republican chairman has been talking down Irey's chances in Republican circles. Irey has reduced Murtha's big lead but still is far behind.
"I told her that I spend all my time and effort having fundraisers for the Cambria County GOP," Gleason told this column. "So to go back to the donors would be difficult." He said the Irey campaign was asking too much of party donors and did not understand "the way we operate up here."

Where oh where is the poll with the numbers?
Over here.......
I haven't seen any poll numbers yet.
FWIW, I spoke to a reporter covering this race yesterday who told me that both sides have internal polls, but are not releasing the numbers. Also said that no indpt polls have been conducted.
Sent more $$$

Uh huh. The way they operate, huh? Crooked SOB's. I can see him slappin' his good friend Jack Murtha on the back and telling him to not worry about that pretty little lady, 'cause she don't know the 'way we operate.'
you would think that the MSM would have an eye on this one given Murtha's statements..the lack of an indy poll, or any (published) poll for that matter leads me to believe that this race is quite close..
Where are the poll numbers?
DON'T CLICK THE LINK ABOVE!!!!
NAV detected a worm intursion.
Time for a coup within the GOP ranks there, I think. Of course it PA is a disaster for the Repubs then maybe the chairman would be on his way out anyway.
Is the state legislature up for election too? The GOP has had a majority in both houses for a few years, as I recall. Maybe that will remain the one bright spot for this election.
If she wants to ask for money from the GOP, she's going to need to show them she has a shot.
We all want Murtha out of there - but it makes no sense to throw bad money after good trying to defeat him and lose both that contest and another one elsewhere because of lack of funds.
The number one objective this fall is retaining the House - unseating Murtha is a secondary goal.
gop snubs harris in florida..........gop snubs ivey in ohio.....gop in michigan has no backbone...now, why should i send the gop any money at all?
There seem to be a number of races wherein the Republican establishment is working against the Republican candidate. Have we been too successful lately? Is it deemed time to commit party suicide?
At the Pittsburgh Tribune?!?! That is where I got it!?!
"They claimed the Republican chairman has been talking down Irey's chances in Republican circles. "
This proves that the Republican hierarchy is some areas is the Republican Party's worst enemy. They still live under the assumption the Rats will win and it's best to kiss the ring of the currentm power structure in order to keep on the good side. We have a dolt for a congressman down here that could be beaten if the GOP money people locally would put their money behind a GOP canidate. But these same people keep giving him money because they think he helps keep our Navy bases open , etc.
Don't send the national party any money. They may give it to Chafee or some lame a$$ rino like that.
Give directly to local and state and national candidates.
