Neil Boortz has the right idea. With the fair tax you can plan on things without any surprises.

The figures used for the Fair Tax derive a significant amount of the "revenue" from sales to the government. Where does the government get money the money to make those purchases and supply that revenue? It's not magic. It's smoke and mirrors. That revenue doesn't exist, but there will still be a demand for that revenue. How will that be solved? Simple. Find a bunch of new things to tax and/or raise the rates. The Fair Tax people always tap dance around this issue, but never seem to have an answer.

People who rent a property are going to see the Fair Tax added to the monthly rent. It's a taxable service. Get a hair cut...that's a taxable service too. Figuring out how to price meals at a restaurant should be fun too. Labor+materials+profit+"Fair Tax".

Frankly, I think the Winter Olympics will be hosted in hell before the Fair Tax has a chance of being enacted.
