Police Vigilance Urged As New Year Approaches
The FBI is warning police chiefs across the country that it has discovered evidence of religious extremists, racists, cults and other groups preparing for violence as New Year's Eve approaches and is urging law enforcement agencies to view the dawn of the next millennium as a catalyst for criminal activities.
The FBI says those most likely to perpetrate violence are motivated either by religious beliefs relating to the Apocalypse, or are New World Order conspiracists convinced the United Nations has a secret plan to conquer the world.
In a 34-page report prepared by the bureau's domestic terrorism unit, the FBI says some members of militias and racist groups, including one called "Christian Identity" and another called "Odinism," are acquiring weapons and surveying targets in anticipation of the millennium.
FBI officials plan to brief law enforcement officials about the millennial threat at a closed-door meeting of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in North Carolina on Tuesday.
The report, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post, says that local law enforcement officials need to monitor radical groups for behavior such as stockpiling weapons and food that may indicate they are preparing for violence.
--snip--
In its report, the FBI describes several groups that it says have some members that pose a violent threat. "Christian Identity" followers, comprising loosely knit groups throughout the country, are "ardently opposed to race mixing" and believe that the "white Aryan race is God's chosen race." Christian Identity provides the "unifying theology" for a number of "right-wing" groups that pose a threat, the report says. "Odinists" also adhere to a white supremacist ideology and can be dangerous because many members believe in becoming "martyrs for the cause," the report says.

Millennium cults pose bigger threat than terrorists
The Times (London)/August 20, 1996
By Kathryn Knight
A Disaster such as the Waco siege is inevitable in Britain if the Government does not act to control the growing number of violent and irrational cults, a report says.
Some of the 500 cults operating in Britain are so unpredictable that they are potentially more dangerous terrorist groups according to The Prophets of Doom: The Security of Religious Cults, published by the Institute for European Defense and Strategic Studies, an independent think-tank. Many use mind control techniques to indoctrinate their followers, who number up to half a million.
Martin Hubback, author of the report. said that, as the millenium approached, cult activity was likely to become more intense. He called for the immediate intervention of the security services to prevent cult violence leading to mass deaths. "Only a small minority of unorthodox religious groups represent any danger to society, but those that do are capable of wreaking havoc out of all proportion to their size or importance.
Thousands of unorthodox cults exist around the world, varying from single congregation churches to big international organizations. In Britain they often fall info two categories: religious groups, which are popular among people in their 20s, and therapy-based sects, offering help for physical or mental problems, which appeal to the middle-aged. All tend to insulate themselves from society.
"It is the combination of individuals belonging to a group without rational ends, who are not in a bargaining relationship with the authorities, who are reckless as to their own survival and who possess the ability and inclination to use hitherto taboo methods of destruction, which makes cults such a serious threat to society," Mr. Hubback said. "If anything we are moving away from a world where conflict is between relatively rational players and towards one threatened by irrational cults who want to make the Apocalypse a self-fulfilling prophecy."
The report follows a number of mass cult-related deaths. At least 70 members of the Branch Davidian cult, led by David Koresh, died in their compound in Waco in 1993 after a gun battle with police and a huge fire. A third of the people who died were British. In 1994, 48 members of a Canadian-based cult died in fires in Switzerland.
More disturbingly, recent attacks have involved the public. In March of last year, nerve gas was released on the Tokyo underground. Killing 12 and injuring hundreds. [At least one of the] activists [possibly had] connections to a cult [within the so-called] Christian Identity [movement who was] responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 in April last year.

"Mike Levine (former LEO) has a talk show in NYC... I used to laugh when he said that he was tasked with infiltrating some of these "white supremacist groups"...and he'd go to a "meeting" and by and large there were much more undercover LEO officers there than actual white supremacist nutters. Sometimes by a factor of 3 to 1."
The county militia where I lived included almost all of the local law enforcement. They weren't hiding at all. Of course this was in rural Tennessee.

Jake Reno and her sidekick, Jame Gorelicker, had the AG's office, FBI, and ? focusing on White Christian Males with military experience, who dared to own guns and be conservative.
We were the enemies of the Clintoon Thugs, not the Islamofascists, who bombed the WTC under the Clintoon watch.

The Sept. 11 commission did not learn of any U.S. government knowledge prior to 9/11 of surveillance of Mohammed Atta or of his cell, said Hamilton, a former Democratic congressman from Indiana. Had we learned of it obviously it wouldve been a major focus of our investigation.
Hamiltons remarks Tuesday followed findings by Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., vice chairman of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security committees, that made front-page news.
In June, Weldon displayed charts on the floor of the U.S. Senate showing that Able Danger identified the suspected terrorists in 1999. The unit repeatedly asked for the information to be forwarded to the FBI but apparently to no avail. Various news outlets picked up on the story this week.
Weldon said that in September 2000, the unit recommended on three separate occasions that its information on the hijackers be given to the FBI so they could bring that cell in and take out the terrorists. However, Weldon said Pentagon lawyers rejected the recommendation, arguing that Atta and the others were in the country legally so information on them could not be shared with law enforcement.
Lawyers within the administration and were talking about the Clinton administration, not the Bush administration said you cant do it, and put post-its over Attas face, Weldon said.
They said they were concerned about the political fallout that occurred after Waco
and the Branch Davidians.

Great post. I seem to remember an article that said until 1998 only 5 FBI agents worked full time on the Islamist threat. Clinton had then concentrating on the VRWC that took down the Murrah Bldg.

They said [the Clinton administration was] concerned about the political fallout Bill couldn't do anything while he was in office that would jeapordize Hillary's future chances to be President.
The Clintons have known for years that Bill had to avoid making waves, if Hillary was going to be elected.
We should never elect a president who is married to a potential presidential candidate.

Oh yeah, sure congratulate Neverdem ... Just because SHE was the one to print this report.
(As if "I" - simply because "I" remembered it but didn't make a post about it on FR - don't need the credit for remembering it..... )
This FBI domestic anti-terrorism task force leader, by the way, made many press interviews in the months before 1999-2000, NONE of which mentioned Muslim extremists or anti-capitalist (green party) terror threats.
Everything was right-wing extremists, and right-wing violence. (Though never was he able to mention a specific group as he did in this article.) Hillary/Reno attacked ONLY religious conservatives, never Muslim terrorists.

Another reason Clintoon focused on perceived domestic "extremists" instead of also looking towards threats from "outside", was that he was already dreaming, scheming, planning on, and hoping to be THE guy who "brought peace" to the Middle East by bringing Arabs and Israelis to the table, and thus secure his "legacy". [excuse me while i go puke]
He couldn't be seen (by the Arab street) as being active against Islamic extremists, lest that queer the "deal" he wanted to sell.
It's amazing that the Toon believed his own b.s so much that he actually thought a guy like Arafat would buy into it, too --- instead of just continuing to be the same murderous double crossing s.o.b. that he'd been since before the early days of the P.L.O.
For a supposedly "smart" guy, that was f%&#ing! STUPID!
Even worse, it made the Israeli/Palestinian conflict much worse. It didn't take very long to do so, either...
The "left" in this nation, conveniently forget and fully overlook this proven grievous error, while at the same time indulging themselves in speculation on how much the Bush Admin's actions against Saddam have "created", or have bred more terrorists. [like plenty of 'em haven't been hating us, voicing "death, death" to us, daily, for the last nearly thirty years?]
The Bent One thought Arafat could be bought off...just like he himself could be.
Sold us out to the Chinese [to get enough cash to get reelected], then made the Middle East a more deadly place to be a Jew. Thanks Blow-Job, Impeached former P.O.T.U.S. for nothing, you pathetic, lying, dog-wagging, finger wagging bullying coward.
I hope you drop dead, and fall face down in a pile of dogshit. I wanna see it on television...

Y2K may not have meant anything to Islam, but the terrorists still have bomb plot all cooked up. The plot was foiled by an alert border agent on the Canadian border, north of Seattle.
