US Senator George Allen is responding to more allegations of racist behavior.
The latest comes from a former college teammate.
Former teammate Doctor Ken Shelton says, "Allen said he came to Virginia because he wanted to play football in a place where 'blacks knew their place.'"
"He used the N-word on a regular basis back then," said Shelton, who was in Salon.com.
During a hunting outing with Allen and another teammate, Shelton says Allen drove the three to a black neighborhood and "he proceeded to take the doe's head and stuff it into a mailbox."
Bishop Gerald Glenn says he used to see Allen as a Confederate flag waving redneck and has talked to the senator about his perception problem in the African American community.
While the two still disagree on key issues, Glenn says assassinating Allen's character does nothing for the voters of Virginia.
Allen told reporters today that he and Doctor Shelton weren't close and haven't spoken to each other in more than 30 years. Other teammates have released statements saying they've never heard Allen use racial slurs.
Allen's approval rating is down in the latest poll released today by SurveyUSA. The poll was taken last week, so the numbers do not reflect possible reaction to the Salon.com article.
I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!
I used that word when I learned the poem "eeny meeny miney moe"
My mother explained to me that we did not use that word because it was very hurtful to a group of people, and I never used it again. I was about 3 at the time.
Didn't he recently sign a health care bill in his state targeting Wal-Mart to force them to provide healthcare benefits to their employees or pay the state in fines?
Yea, Romney is a real conservative type of guy........
I didn't know that! I did know of the NC incident (and posted it!)
Oh, this has the "pubic hair on a coke can" thing written all over it. He'd heard it somewhere and thought we wouldn't find the reference.
It's time to go after Shelton for this. This is revolting.
Don't let the door hit ya,
where the good Lord split ya!
Buhbye! Enjoy the zot!
I think people are just makin' stuff up now.
The "Antics" are lies. The 3 people making them have been refuted by 16 people who went to school with Allen at the time. But as usual the Freeper whiners think this will some how help their pet canidate in 2008 so they keep stiring the pot
Allen should say: "When I was young and racist, I was young and racist."
Go find Charlotte on a map of NC. Then look a bit to the southwest and you'll see Hendersonville. For Hoke County, I looked up where the courthouse is. A town called Raeford. You'll see it to the southeast from Charlotte.
I ran mapquest and it's 230 miles from Raeford to Hendersonville.
I will guess that both places get Charlotte TV stations. but that is just a guess.
My theory is that these Democrats were holding all of this garbage to throw at Allen if he ran for President. But after the 'macaca' thing hit, they figured they could maybe pile on and finish him off - use this made-up stuff to 'prove' to voters that 'macaca' is a racial slur and he used it deliberately in front of an 'approving' white redneck audience, because it is just a foreign version of 'nigger' which he has used all his life. After all, he DID once own a Confederate flag! The horror!
I can take people here having differing opinions about politicians, but man! A retread that brags about it, smears the moderators, and says he thinks the site is going downhill should just stay away.
That kinda talk gets on the fightin' side of me!!!
Well, it's not as if he drove his car off a bridge and left a woman to die.
Clearly the same media market. I mean, who would even think to put deer parts in mailboxes? He'd had to hear it somewhere before.
The reason that there is video of Allen's introduction of Sidarth to the crowd is because Allen was looking directly at Sidarth who was holding a video camera in front of his face.
It seems extremely unlikely to me that a seasoned pol would make an insulting remark directly into a working camera. I think you may be right that he was trying to say Mohawk and it came out garbled.
I have yet to meet anyone who knew the meaning of 'macaca' before August 2006.
How do we know we are not using words that are offensive in many languages every day? Movies have been made about double meanings to words. Meet the Fockers, for example.
People who are withdrawing their endorsement of Allen for this are exhibiting a shallowness of their previous support of him.
' I keep having to tell idiots this again and again: First, Allen didn't "call" anybody anything. He thought it was his name."
I could not stop watching Matthews tonight while doing paperwork- it was like gawking at a car wreck.
Matthews is beyond irrational with his obsession over Allen and macaca and the n word.Like he used to be with Plame and Rove.
Ed Gillespie was on and no matter how many times or in how many different ways,
Gillespie would say- Allen never intended a racial slur or knew the word had negative connotations-
Matthews would continue to badger him over and over and over as to why Allen routinely uses racial epithets.
Matthews was one step away from accusing Allen of burning crosses and hanging blacks.
And of course, Matthews slimed the 83 yr old Mrs Allen as basically being a Grand Dragon sewing white hoods in her spare time.
I hate when people bash this site or say that "a lot of people on FR" said something. If you don't like the site, leave or lurk. If you think this site can be characterized, think again.
You just have to be a demonrat to come out of the woodwork and lie thru your teeth.
It is also credibly reported that Allen personally caught Dred Scott, chased Little Eva onto that ice floe, and gave John Wilkes Booth a lift to Ford's Theater.
Doctor Ken Shelton had a Jim Rassman moment where he suddenly remembered a significant event from 30 years ago right before an election. I call BS.
Being born and raised in the South, I challenge anyone who claims they have never used the "n-word". Allen should have just claimed he was practicing to be a Rap Star - they use the word quite freely without any backlash.
