US Senator George Allen is responding to more allegations of racist behavior.
The latest comes from a former college teammate.
Former teammate Doctor Ken Shelton says, "Allen said he came to Virginia because he wanted to play football in a place where 'blacks knew their place.'"
"He used the N-word on a regular basis back then," said Shelton, who was in Salon.com.
During a hunting outing with Allen and another teammate, Shelton says Allen drove the three to a black neighborhood and "he proceeded to take the doe's head and stuff it into a mailbox."
Bishop Gerald Glenn says he used to see Allen as a Confederate flag waving redneck and has talked to the senator about his perception problem in the African American community.
While the two still disagree on key issues, Glenn says assassinating Allen's character does nothing for the voters of Virginia.
Allen told reporters today that he and Doctor Shelton weren't close and haven't spoken to each other in more than 30 years. Other teammates have released statements saying they've never heard Allen use racial slurs.
Allen's approval rating is down in the latest poll released today by SurveyUSA. The poll was taken last week, so the numbers do not reflect possible reaction to the Salon.com article.
This is information warfare and Allen is either up to the challenge or he is not. Whether he takes a long view or a short view, he must now cut the legs out from under this latest line of attack.
Even if he succeeds, he still does not have a guaranteed victory in the Repub primaries.
My sense is that Gingrich is the favorite, but that folks shy away from him because of his crummy divorce.
The cleanest candidate at this point appears to be Frist.
--Seems your are still looking at polling data from July. It is September now. Try to catch up.--
I just heard good ole Fred Barnes on the Sean Hannity show say that Allen is severely wounded and right now the race is a toss up. He also said if Allen loses, there's a good chance the GOP will lose the Senate.
Bears repeating.
I'm not a shrink either, but I am an avid reader of FR. Patterns emerge in every situation where one has experience. A totally innocent newbie who happens to land on a bash-Allen thread on 'his/her' sign-up day with that screen name is just too much of a coincidence for me.
I was adding content to the thread because of the [now banned] newbie who called FR a blog. I addressed it to you, because for some reason you wrote to me about a chatroom.
Do you know where shelton lives. I want to see what his political donations look like.
He's a chiropractor who donates Dem.
I would be interested in seeing his political donations. Here is the complete blurb on Shelton and his family, which I lifted from the alumni site:
Ken Shelton, M.D. (MD '79), has spent the last 19 years practicing Radiology in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and raising four kids. Mason is a WFU grad now at ECU for a Ph.D. in Physical Therapy, Tarah is WFU volleyball player and grad currently off the family payroll working as a research financial analyst for national developer Pulte Homes, Houston is 2nd year at Furman University and an aspiring French major, and Tucker is a rising high school senior and dedicated actor. Dr. Shelton and wife, Marney, just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. He has discovered bike riding regularly doing full century rides, and has rediscovered his love of woodworking and creating family heirlooms.
Please check the donations of his wife, Marney, as well.
"I don't care that he has M.D. after his name..."
It's certainly no guarantee of rational thinking nor honorable behavior. After all, Howard Dean has M.D. after his name, too.
LOl!
I think you're right, considering what's come out today.
Why did nobody say anything when he ran for the Senate??
Shelton's wife uses the name, Marney McClung.

Her interests seem to be art & theatre.
Do you really believe Allen when he said he thought he made up the term "macaca" and that he had never heard the term before? Come on. That was stupid.
What is the guy's name?
Everybody makes dumb remarks during their political career, romney isn't exempt from this. When he ran for senate somebody asked him what to do about no milk at homeless vets shelters, romney said they should learn to milk a cow. This got him ripped a new one in the media. He's made stupid comments before, the point is only allen's comments are focused on because 1) he's the only '08 contender up for relection and 2)dems want to destroy a real conservative so only a bunch of moderates are left.
I can't beleive that guy was dumb enough to say he was previously banned.
Do you know if mark levin podcasts his show or if there is a way to listen to it on the net?
Some of the rudy and romney fans on other blogs were saying the VA gop should toricelli allen and yank him from the race (when the allegations first came out).
I don't know why allen is so nice to matthews given how much matthews slimes allen. ALlen is a big guy, i serously doubt chrissy has the guts to do it to his face.
