(AL)Immigrants make school rolls larger than town

CROSSVILLE -- Few folks could have forecast it 10 years ago, but the enrollment at the public schools in the heart of this Sand Mountain town is now larger than the town's population of 1,440.

The word "crisol" - Spanish for melting pot - might explain it.

Nearly 1,700 students attend Crossville's elementary, junior high and high schools, about double the enrollment of 10 years ago, and the reason is the arrival of Hispanic students in the surrounding area.

The words "anchor baby" - English for anchor baby - might also explain it.

That can easily change in Crossville. Simply pass a law that goes after employers and landlords as Hazleton, PA has done and watch the newcomers go somewhere else.

I hope their school is not funded by property taxes...

"Why should taxpayers have to subsidize twelve years of education for the children of parents who entered illegally or are breaking our laws by being here? The reason: again, the Supreme Court. Under Plyler v. Doe, a 5-4 decision in 1982 by Justice William Brennan, an appointment Ike called one of his worst mistakes, Texas was ordered to provide illegal aliens the same education as American children. This has proven a magnet for foreigners to come to have their children educated for free, even if they have to break the law to get here or stay here."
"State Of Emergency" p. 265-6, Patrick Buchanan

Our schools here in Texas are busting at the seams because of the illegals. The School Boards love it however, because that means more schools, more teachers, more govt money.

After dropping my kid off at school, I pass the elementary schools watching parents bring all their kids for the free breakfast and carrying that "anchor baby." Boy have we been screwed.

We need a guest worker program for these agricultural workers. I don't want food production to leave the USA. Other than that - deport, build a fence, institute employer sanctions

Out of curiosity, what would it take to strike that decision down? Or, are we stuck with it in perpetuity?

Yup we have. Changing the sheets and taking a shower won't do anything to fix the mess we've made either. Voting out incumbents is the only medicine that will cure us.

Your guess is as good as mine. Congress should make `job 1'amending the 14th so that the term `anchor babies' is found only in textbooks.

Tyson and the other chicken barons are making out like bandits and passing the bill to the locals. Do you think your kid can get a good education in these overwhelmed schools? None of the people responsible for this have kids in these types of schools, their kids go to private schools on their way to elite colleges, they don't care what happens to your kids or communities.

It would be bad enough if they were taught only in English, and learned about how great this country was and how privileged they are to be here. Now, we fund schools that tell them their (failed) culture is great, and that they are somehow both oppressed and entitled. It's suicidal for America.
