COCOA Local motorcycle builder Billy Lane turned himself in at 1 p.m. today in connection with a fatal accident Sept. 4.
Among the charges Lane faces are driving under influence, manslaughter and driving with his license suspended.
Lane, 36, arrived with his lawyers at the Florida Highway Patrol office on State Road 520.
FHP spokeswoman Kim Miller said Lanes blood alcohol level was .192 when the accident occurred on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach.
She said bond would be set at $15,000.
Investigators have said Lane was trying to pass two other vehicles on a double-yellow-lined stretch of A1A when his southbound 2006 Dodge Ram pickup collided with a northbound 1983 Yamaha moped.
Melbourne Beach resident Gerald Morelock, 56, was killed. Lane and a passenger in his truck were injured.
For almost 20 years, Lane has made a name for himself building custom choppers. He has appeared on the Discovery Channels Bike Build-Off and Monster Garage.
I remember on one of the Biker Build off shows, Lane was up against a builder who is a born again Christian who told Lane that he needed to clean his life up or he would live to regret it.
WTF?.........
WTF? 'Splain, plz.
Take it over to chat!
Erm,
ah...
Archives is down the hall.
Looks like another HSW Troll (her, not you.)
What does this have to do with motorcycles?
OK,
it's been a confusing day and I'm just trying to make sure what is reality and what isn't :)
I guess Discovery Channel can set him up with a shop in prison for the next biker build off.
Don't bring a moped to a pick-up fight.
Actually, I would say don't drive drunk! A .192 alcohol level is not drinking and driving. It is not a couple of beers. It is driving smashed.
I would like to see drinking drivers ticketed like speeders. As the difference between the speed limit and the actual speed increases, so does the severity of the ticket. Eventually it becomes reckless driving.
I would like the same sort of "relative penalty" placed on the various levels of blood alcohol.
I firmly believe I would be a better driver 20 minutes after slamming down two shots of Tequilla than many drivers are stone cold sober, and ESPECIALLY if they are talking on a cell phone.
Yeah, I'm an atheist, but that episode completely pissed me off. Not to mention, Discovery edited it in such a way to make the Christian builder look like somewhat of a kook.
Lane is a jerk, and it looks like he's about to take a big ol' bite out of the karma pie. To bad someone had to die for it.
Lighten up francis, it's a news article.
Sad, but he will be punished at least, unlike Ted Kennedy.
Why would this belong in chat? It's news...at least from what I see.
