Katie Skips Dem Scandal In N.J. Senate Race, Compares Kean Family to 'The Sopranos'
Newsbusters ^

What’s politically toxic in Campaign 2006? On the CBS Evening News Friday night, Katie Couric covered the U.S. Senate race in New Jersey, and the danger was apparently a Republican standing anywhere near Team Bush. Couric pressed Republican candidate Tom Kean Jr. about President Bush: "Would you like him to come?" The second time she asked, she giggled. She weirdly compared the Kean family to the fictional mob family in The Sopranos. (Would she ever do that to the Kennedys?)

Couric ever-so-barely revealed "scandal has wracked the Democratic Party here," but gave no specifics. Newly appointed Sen. Bob Menendez is facing a federal probe for renting out his property to a community group, and then securing millions in federal grants for that community group. At the very least, liberal groups the networks often use as expert sources, like Public Citizen and the Center for Public Integrity, say Menendez is guilty of a conflict of interest. But CBS viewers would have no idea. They just heard Menendez say it’s "smear tactics to hide a right-wing agenda."

Did anybody else see this hit piece? Couric compared the Keans to the Sopranos, made no mention of all the scandal around Menendez, tied Kean to Bush (Menendez's re-election strategy), and repeatedly referred to Kean as "Junior".

I am so sick of this empty-headed b-tch Couric. But I take comfort in knowing her ratings are plunging and her contract with CBS will not be renewed.

And Menedez is the one who should be compared the Sopranos. The man is utterly corrupt. He shut down the govt. of Jersey City just to get back at the mayor one time.

Doesn't matter. The geriatrics who watch her show were going to vote for Bob "All Sales Of My Integrity Are Final" Menendez anyway.

Thanks for the link I just watched it on youtube. She should have Kean if he was prepared for a NJ Switcheroo if the Democrats pull Menendez like they did Torricelli.

Today's NJ Dem "Scandal of the Day" feature the news that Sharpe James expensed $48,000 on travel (Brazil, Puerto Rico, elsewhere) in the final weeks of his administration.

Sharpe don't travel coach, when the taxpayer's paying.

"But the latest polls have Kean ahead. The Republican Party smells blood, and is helping him raise money..."

The GOP "smells blood"? As if the GOP is moving in for a kill... Would Katie ever use such wording for the Dem party?

Nothing pisses off residents of New Jersey more than when New Yorkers wander across the Hudson and pretend they know what the Hell they're talking about. Within the first thirty seconds of this piece, Katie Couric displays her truly astounding knowledge of all things New Jersey by citing the NJ Turnpike, The Sopranos and Bruce Springsteen.

This is the New Yorker caricature of New Jersey. Anybody from this state who saw that piece would be immediately pissed off at Katie Couric for perpetuating such asinine simplifications when she deigns to bless us with her all-powerful gaze for one minute and 55 seconds once every few years.

The NBC graphics lab neglected to photoshop horns and fangs onto those pictures of Karl Rove and Dick Cheney, but they did just about everything else they could do to make them look evil.

NBC has to slip some racial epithets into the Teleprompter feed. Then they can fire her for cause!

If her ratings get bad enough, they'll do a buy-out of the idiot just to be rid of her.

Very good point. I have lived for significant amounts of time in both Minnesota and New Jersey, and while I love Minneosta, Jersey will always be home, and I too was offended by the blatant stereotyping of New Jersey. Drive along the Turnpike on your way to a diner where they play Bruce Springsteen and Tony Soprano's guys take care of the "waste management".

On a side note, you can imagine the New Yorker's view of Minnesota that I've encountered: it's flyover country, nothing but cows (we don't even have much dairy farming in Minnesota), Minneapolis and St. Paul are quaint little towns, and they love to their wonderful impression of a Minnesotan, lifted straight from "Fargo".

This is of course New Jersey, BUT if the brain dead voters are of a mind to turn and fight back against the crooked rat, Bagman bobbie menendez is the candidate to do it with.

The tricky part is exactly when Chis Christie drops the indictment on Bagman. If he does it too soon the New Jersey rat will get clincchio to tap the Bagman on the shoulder and get rid of him.

In that case they would bring in the gay American to pinch hit which would be fine with the brain dead(ers) of New Jersey since gay American is a switch hitter and could slip right into the slot without any friction.

Ya coulda hired the Swedish bikini team PLUS a better blonde teleprompter reader bimbo than Katie from some local station, and still had enough money left from the $15 million to buy a couple yachts. What was CBS thinking???
