HAVANA (AP)--Fidel Castro, in his role as president of the Nonaligned Movement, decried the detention of Venezuela's foreign minister at a New York airport, calling it a "vulgar provocation."

A statement issued late Saturday said the Cuban leader reacted "with indignation" upon hearing that Nicolas Maduro was detained for 90 minutes at John F. Kennedy International Airport. He said the incident was an "unacceptable violation" of international norms regarding diplomats.

The leader "extends his most vigorous protest of this vulgar provocation, which could take place again against any member of the Movement."

The Venezuelan official was detained for 90 minutes Saturday while attempting to fly home to Caracas via Miami. He accused airport officials of treating him abusively by trying to frisk and handcuff him.

Did you see Maduro (the "detained official") on TV?

Even in a suit-and-tie, he looked like another one of several dozen mustachioed cuccarachas swarming around the smarmy two-bit Dictator Thug.

I wonder what set off the alarm-bells at the airport: his copy of Chomski's Mein Kampf or just good old body odor?

Too bad we didn't give him and his boss - and most of the rest of the General Assembly (is it my imagination or is that place looking more and more like a casting-call for United 93?) a real taste of American "detention" -

at Club Gitmo!

Homeland Security denied he was detained. Sounds like Chavez and him are making this all up.

Apparently it was his late arrival at the airport and using cash to purchase a one-way fare.

Has anyone actually seen castro since his surgery, btw...?

I wonder what set off the alarm-bells at the airport...

Seriously, it would not take much to set off any "alarm bells" at the airport. We really, really need to get some people with a brain working the security.

On a recent trip to Lake Tahoe, I had all the toiletries in my checked luggage, dumped from a zip lock bag and then they removed a dental scaler and a mouth mirror, and confiscated them, as though they were weapons, in my checked luggage.

On the way back, the idiot woman who was doing secondary checking, was picking out all the older women, including my 86 year old mother-in-law, for purse checks because she thought they looked as though they might be carrying make-up.

I don't know why Castro is upset over this. He should be happy that we are following in his footsteps and keeping people from leaving. Catro knows a thing or two about making sure people can't leave.

It's a win-win for Chavez. He gets his name out in the press again and it makes us look vindictive. I bet it was designed from the get go. If it wan't, the minister still broke security regulations that all of us have to follow. Wish there was film.

What exactly is "the Movement" he speaks of? A vast world Communist conspiracy, or a bowel movement?

A Cuban government communist is detained for 90 minutes at JFK, in relation to thousands of Cubans "detained" for years in Castro's hellish gulag.

The brutal anti-American Castro régime should not exist in 2006.
