Boycott of Citgo launched
WorldNetDaily ^ | 09/24/2006

A pro-family group has launched a boycott of the Citgo oil company because it is run by the Venezuelan government, which is led by U.S.-bashing President Hugo Chavez.

"Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government," said American Family Association founder Don Wildmon in a statement.

Just because some people say they don't work; that doesn't mean they don't. With no money coming in; they won't be there for long and be forced out of business. I don't know why they are still in business anyway. I hardly see them anymore. Do they sell under any other name?

Trouble is we have CITCO station on the Navy Base in Great Lakes! We don't buy gas from CITGO even out in town.

All the NEX stations on the bases around Norfolk (NOB,NAS,Little Creek, Oceana, shipyard)are also Citgo. Guess NEX has quite a "contract" with Hugo.

It is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS that we are not drilling ANWR. UNCONSCIOUABLE!

I'm still waiting for any democrat to explain why it is BETTER to send our money to Chavez/Ahmadinejad or any of the other nut case rulers in the Middle East rather than keep our money here, and provide 50,000 jobs in Alaksa!!

UNBELIEVABLE.

Citgo, paid for the sign and canopy and helps with certain credit issues in return for this gas station operation's promise to buy all his gas from Citgo. The contracts last 18-48 months. Once the deal runs out, the operator is free to rebrand. Citgo does not own the station. Some local guy does.

I have been boycotting them for years, but then again, I don't think we have any Citgo stations in this area.

There was only one station here locally and it closed down last year for its own boycott of Venezuelan oil.

It's too early in the morning for humor. I need some caffeine first.

I quit buying from them about a year ago. I used to go a bit out of my way to buy gas from Citgo, because their gas was the cheapest. Now I buy from BP, Shell and Texaco. This latest tirade from Chavez makes it even easier to buy from every one else, no matter how cheap Citgo's gas is.

Isn't Chavez already closing most CITGO stations in the U.S.? HE has said he wants to triple production to China over the next 10 years.

my mechanic highly recommended I change to Chevron because of the quality of their additives.

I'd say he's right - my guy told me not to do that expensive "fuel system cleaning" that places like Jiffy Lube offer - just go to a Chevron station and spend 3 or 4 bucks on a small bottle of their fuel injection additive.

"How can we get CITGO off our base?"

Easy. Just quit buying from them.

What you can do is fill up your tank elsewhere, then go to a Citgo self-serve and pump less than one dollar of gasoline into your tank (perfectly legal to do).

It would cost Citgo more to process your payment and if enough people did that, they'd go bankrupt.

Thanks for the store locator. Looks like folks heading down to the beach in Alabama have many opportunities to boycot Citgo stations... 5 or 6 right there on Hwy 59.

It's almost Snowbird season down here. Call your parents and grandparents and tell them to avoid Citgo as they migrate down south in their RVs.

I love it. I think that should replace the current landmark Citgo sign in Boston's Kenmore Square, which has dominated the Boston skyline for as long as I have lived here (over 30 years).

Yep, he also says that Techtron is the best of the injector cleaners.

I keep reasonably accurate tabs on my mileage, and since switching to 100% Chevron in February, I have seen an honest 15%+ improvement in gas mileage. That's not insignificant.
