I should have read the thread before posting - - re: post #39, I see you beat me to it.
BUMP what you said.
Unfortunately Howard doesn't have a threatening bat behind him in the lineup, so expect alot of walks.
Howie Rose of WFAN called Roger Maris' 61 the "People's Record". I like that. If we all fete Howard for beating that, which he will, MLB will have little choice but follow suit eventually.

What about foo stams?
Conine has been doing great, making other teams pay.
It's to the point now where teams are routinely walking Howard even when first base is occupied. A few weeks ago Phil Garner intentionally walked Howard to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning of a tie game, putting the winning run on base. Howard is being walked with guys on 1st and 2nd. Etc. It's unbelievable.
"What about those stereos everyone is talking about?"
Would that be Brian Fisher? Brian's son died from cystic fibrosis, and he was having a charity auction. Barry was asked Barry to sign a ball, and barry reportedly replied, f**k you and f**k brian fisher.
Who can also forget this, barry refusing to sign his home run ball 713 for a serviceman:

I just read about that tonight, I gave up on the Phillies after the players were allowed to run Larry Bowa out, but I keep up with the goings-on in print. Even Mike Schmidt is amazed with the guy.
Exactly. "Bionic man breaks bench-press record."
Does Balco get credit in the record books?
This is right about the time I quit paying attention to Barry Bonds.
Steroids make guys a bit nutty, too.
Although he does point to the sky when he hits a homer, doesn't he? That's nice.
We've gone from outrage when the East Germans were doing it (and no demands for proof then), to "never proven" when the heroes of our white guilt are doing it. A fine mess, Stanley!
And the reason anyone should care is? Bonds will get a place in the steroids (cheater) section of Cooperstown.
Terribly ironic considering the asterisk (of a kind) associated with 61 for so long.
