Author Noam Chomsky, whose three-year-old book shot to the top of the Amazon.com bestseller list after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez touted it at the United Nations, reportedly said he would like to meet Chavez.
"I would be happy to meet him," said Chomsky according to the New York Times.
The American author told the Times he received "10,000 e-mails" after Chavez recommended his 2003 book "Hegemony or Survival" in remarks before the United Nations General Assembly.
Chavez made headlines this week for railing against US "imperialism" in the eyebrow-raising speech.
Chomsky, 77, told the newspaper he would not use the same words -- "alcoholic," "sick man" and "tyrant" -- that Chavez used to describe President George W. Bush.
But he said he understood where the Venezuelan president was coming from.

Chomsky is dead. Chavez said so.
Chomsky is making a lot of money here. Is he using the profits responsibly? Is he sharing with people according to their needs?
If chomsky is so frigging eager to meet hugo, let him emmigrate to venezuala.
There is nothing lower than Noam Chomsky. He is a parasite sucking on the capitalism he abhors. He is an ingrate, a liar, a demon in love with himself and his self-obsessed fantasies; he has trashed a country that has allowed him to live, earn and spout his filth for decades; he should move to Caracas where he and that ugly Latino gnome can sleep with each other.
That meeting sounds like a "target-rich environment."
Get that Sheehan woman there, and they can have a threesome.
I think you're right. Have you ever read any of his scholarly stuff? It's indeciperable. I think the reason is that he writes nonsense.
Major Kneepad Alert!!!
Chomskying at the bit to get close to the Chavezs' I am sure.
Bush should have denied Chavez visa request. Way too much air time given to hot head.
I heard that his book is now on the best-seller list. Disgusting.
Well, he is certainly a major contributor to Global Warming...
"They truly are Communist bastards, enemies of our United States."
They have been since the sixties, they are just coming out of the closet now.
Actually, WAY before the sixties...
This was a very important week for the new global consciousness to take a step forward: I can't think of a few days so jampacked with revelatory poetic justice: Ahmedinejad, the UN, Hugo Chavez and Noam Chomsky all found each other and showed the world (and even our own Democrats) just who they are and what they are capable of, and how such apparently different entities can be united in the common cause of idiocy, nascent danger, yet laughable irrelevance. I think they all came a little closer to committing suicide.
"that ugly Latino gnome"---
yesterday on the radio, Michael Savage referred to him as "football face", and I yelled out "YES!"
