President Bush and Sen. John McCain have reached an agreement on legislation covering tribunals for enemy combatant suspects, NBC News reported Thursday.
Details on the deal were not immediately available.
The compromise comes amid a stalemate that has divided the House and Senate on the treatment of detainees. The two sides remained at odds this week over how to adhere to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and simultaneously give the CIA wide leeway to conduct interrogations.

Figures. McCain needed to find the camera before a deal could be inked.
Per Fox: Deal

That is exactly what McCain is doing, because everyday that there is no deal, he AND the Democrats look worse. Bush's poll numbers are a total disaster for the Democrats AND John McCain.

Right now, in spite of all the speculation, I don't believe there will be an agreement. Of course, I could be wrong.

OK so now McCain will be portrayed as "pulling one out of the fire". The "hero", the "maverick", the "go-to guy".

Any deal must contain language that specifically bans our people from putting women's panties on prisoners' heads, while allowing the enemy to behead our people with no questions asked. /sarcasm

Reuters
Thursday, September 21, 2006; 3:03 PM WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House and Senate Republicans were near a deal on legislation setting out rules for interrogating and trying foreign terrorism suspects, an aide to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said on Thursday.
"We are close. But there is no deal yet," the aide said.
Frist called in the three Republican senators who challenged President George W. Bush's bill and White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley on Thursday and told them he needed "a deal to his satisfaction by the end of business today," the aide said.
"Then Frist will make his decision" if he will accept it, the aide said. It appeared Frist was about to meet with the senators to review the tentative deal.

Remember, McCain wanted to kill this. That was his initial position that we should make NO changes. Basically he was arguing to expand Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention to INCLUDE terrorists.
Let see what comes out. Wonder how small the PR fig-leaf the Pres left him. No matter what it is the Junk Media will spin it as a "Bush Cave" when in fact it is a Bush win. As long as the interrogators get legal immunity from International "War Crimes" persecutions we win.
