Rudy Giuliani just spoke to our high school

Posted on 09/20/2006 6:13:37 PM PDT by letsgonova19087

Rudy spoke to our high school this evening as part of a program by a local organization. I know a lot here don't like him and see him as too liberal, I have to say after watching him that he "gets" it. I'm not yet old enough to vote, but I will be in '08, and I know where its going when I can.

He started out the speech with a funny story about his first trial as a prosecutor. He really is a warm guy, and truly does look like he enjoys talking to people. He spent a lot of time on terrorism. I was somewhat suprised with what seemed to be his grasp of the terrorism topic in an "international" way...I had expected him to talk about more "domestic" topics regarding terrorism like homeland security, but he really did seem to understand the theoretical and conceptual nature of the war on terror.

He continued his remarks with some very positive comments about Iraq (no doubt if he was elected he'd do the right thing), the President, and the general WOT. He then took questions. To paraphrase:

"Are you running for president?" "That's a decision I'll make at the beginning of next year, but I'm honored to be considered in the running for it"

"What was going through your mind on 9/11?" He talked about losing so many friends, feeling all alone, and at one point just resolving to make the best decisions he could and hope for the best.

The last "question" was actually very moving. A woman stood up and, on the verge of tears, said "I was in New York on 9/11, and I just want to say thank you." she was overwhelmed with emotion and had to sit. This recieved great applause from the audience.

Overall, I found Rudy to be a warm guy who would make a great leader and a great manager. Not only will he win if nominated, but he would do a great job leading our country through this time.

Sorry for the length, I just felt like recounting this to someone...please feel free to provide feedback.

He's pro-abortion, and anti-gun. Too liberal for me.

One thing about Rudy that I like though: He has a succinct grasp of any topic that even his critics will be nodding their heads furiously in agreement.

I don't like how he's being shoved down the throats of conservatives, by here and by the MSM. If he wins the primary with a center-right agenda that appeals to everyone, I'll take another look at him.

I certainly respect that mans service to our country, but I wish he'd have just kept more quiet after he lost the primary.

It appears that Giuliani didn't think it was too important to include his views on abortion, sodomite 'rights' and gun ownership in his speech.
He'll probably get around to those when he decides if he'll run or not in '08.

And LetsGoNova...My post isn't a disparagement towards you in any way, it's nice to see our younger folks showing interest in our great nation.

Thanks for the report. I am always interested in personal reports of candidate appearances, and although Rudy isn't a candidate yet, I am certain he will be shortly after the first of the year.

It was really nice of you to post this, and I especially appreciated the personal descriptions and the lady who got up and said "Thank you."

I think he'll come around on the social issues.

He's from NYC, remember?

Excellent post and it's nice to know that you and many of your generation take interest in politics in terms of being and informed and educated voter.

Cheers.

Welcome to FR. Glad you are here.

Good to hear some of your thoughts on Rudy.

I personally don't like his stand on abortion, and
hope he isn't the nominee, because of it.

So, we'll see. ;-)

IMO the guy has a firm grasp of the issues concerning the WOT. I admire the way he took charge after 09/11. He responded about as well as anyone could IMO and he deserves a lot of credit for that.

I'm with you, when it comes to his more liberal side.

If he were running against the hildabeast, I'd have to look long and hard at the options.

abortion is going to be returned to the states. Rudy is for civil unions, about the same position as Cheney - but again, that's also going to be a states rights issue.

protecting 2A rights is secured by holding Congress - let's be honest, Bush himself might well have approved some new gun laws, had the republican House not been there to thwart legislative actions on them.
